Today a huge terrorist attack took place in Kabul, Afghanistan. I know, I know. Heavily Islamic countries being terrorized by Muslims is about as surprising as Hillary sacrificing virgins for eternal power. Still, this time is particularly pertinent because of the degree of its deadliness.
At least 80 people were killed and another 231 wounded in the Afghan capital on Saturday, when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives-packed clothing among a large crowd of demonstrators, officials and witnesses said.
[T]he Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack on [the] protest march by Afghanistan’s ethnic Hazaras. The marchers were demanding that a major regional electric power line be routed through their impoverished home province. The attack is one of the deadliest in Afghanistan since the Taliban launched a violent insurgency in 2001.
The power line protest was initially peaceful. It’s important to note that at one point the protesters were chanting “death to…” infidels? America? Nope, but good guesses.
Demonstrators chanted slogans against the president and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, shouting “death to discrimination” and “all Afghans are equal.”
Firstly, yes. That dude’s name is really Abdullah Abdullah. His parents weren’t very creative people. Though it is a step up from Muhammed (crap be upon him) Muhammed (crap be upon him). Now that we’ve cleared that up, let’s move on to the utter crap hand these Afghani protesters were dealt.
These demonstrators gathered for a peaceful protest – which even their government claims is their right as citizens. The protesters weren’t saying anything incendiary. They weren’t holding a Muhammad-drawing contest. They simply made their wants known and claimed a desire for equality. Now, we don’t know if the Islamic terrorists targeted them for their beliefs, or simply because it was a large group of people prime for being ‘sploded.
What we do know is that Afghanistan’s government (also Muslim) has denounced the attack. There are tons of Afghani people who disapprove of it as well. Which brings us back to the issue of non-terrorism-loving Muslims, otherwise known as “moderates.” Afghanistan’s government claims to support individual rights yet does nothing to help protect those rights. The government has sorely failed its people. The people desperately need to separate themselves from the radicals, but the government hinders their ability to (see Dear Moderate Muslims: We NEED You to Fight Islamic Terrorism). It’s a vicious circle. With lots of dead people.
If Middle Eastern moderate Muslims are ever going to live in a world without the fear of getting blown to tiny, halal bits every day, difficult steps need to be taken (read Solve Terrorism? Muslims NEED a Civil War). They have to fight back against radical Islam. Which means their government also needs to get involved… Which means that even leftist leaders, like ours, need to chime in and also denounce Islamic terrorism. Actually saying the words “Islamic terrorism” would be a good start. You know, for human rights and freedom. More important than political correctness.
