That evil, pesky Second Amendment has struck again. Before you whip out your rainbow-painted soapbox and chant, "Ban guns! Guns kill people!" check this out:

An 11 year old boy in St. Louis saved himself and his 4 year old sister from multiple home invasion attempts by two men, 16 and 22 years old respectively. You can watch the video here. The eleven year old boy shot and killed the 16 year old male when the 16 year old broke into their home.

Why were the two men there? Probably not to watch reruns of Matlock.

An 11 year old boy is no match for a 16 or 22 year old man. What would've happened had he NOT had a gun? Fortunately we won't have to find out. Because...

The nutty thing is that the neighbors, BuzzFeed.com and even FoxNews are OUTRAGED that this boy had access to a gun, and there is currently an investigation under way. An investigation? Really? For anything other than "most awesome 11 year old on the block"? The world makes no sense anymore. The kid didn't hurt anyone with the gun... other than an intruder. As far as I'm concerned, this is the feel-good story of the year. Am I taking crazy pills?

Hell, I want more 11 year old boys learning how to responsibly handle a gun, not less. Think about it this way:

Bad guy with gun beats good guy without gun.

Good guy with gun beats bad guy without gun (like this dude).

Good guy with gun stands a chance against bad guy with gun.

The only way to potentially defend yourself from a bad guy with (or without) a gun, is with your own gun. Owning a firearm can be the difference between living and dying. Those Matlock reruns won't watch themselves. I hear he's in a car chase again.

"Maybe I can pee myself to dissuade him."

Restrictive gun laws don't help the weakest among us, they hurt. A lot. The only way a woman stands a chance against a rapist with a gun? A gun of her own. The only way a cop stands a chance against a thug with a gun? A gun of his or her own. The only way a child stems off a home invader? Yup, you guessed it, with a gun. Forget Nerf, for this kid, it's hot lead... or nothing.

Guns aren't evil, but people can be... which is exactly why we need firearms in the first place. Be sure your loved ones are properly trained and know how to defend themselves if - heaven forbid - they ever find themselves in a similar situation.

But if they do, make sure that they tear a page from this little tyke's book. You'll be glad they did.
