Never get between a boy and his nana. That's a life lesson everyone should learn. If I even jokingly raise my voice to my mom, I'm fairly certain my nephew would cut me if I turned my back. Two thugs in North Carolina learned things the hard way after breaking into a woman's home. They shot her in the leg. Only, her 12-year-old grandson knew how to handle a firearm too. His grandmother is thankfully still with us. One of the alleged intruders? Not so much...

Officers responded about 1 a.m. Saturday to a report of a shooting in a residential area. Police arrived at the scene to find a 73-year-old woman suffering from gunshot wound. Shortly after, a man who had also been shot was found at a nearby intersection.

The investigation revealed two people forced their way into the home, demanded money and shot the woman in the leg. During the robbery, a 12-year-old shot the intruders with a firearm in self-defense, causing them to flee, investigators said. Evidence suggests Herring was one of the two masked intruders and was shot during the incident.

We like to share "good guy with a gun" stories like this because they show why we so vigorously defend the Second Amendment. Because of it, this kid was able to save his grandmother. If not, and only the "bad guys" had guns, both the grandma and grandson wouldn't be here any more. Keep this in mind as you hear about Joe Biden's latest gun control pitch. Leftists want to make it harder for law-abiding citizens to obtain firearms. Conservatives want to treat this kid to ice cream and buy him Ninja Turtles.
