Wendy Bell, an 18-year news veteran, was fired from her job at WTAE-TV for, "recent comments on a WTAE Facebook page were inconsistent with the company’s ethics and journalistic standards.” In other words, racist. Or more accurately, people claimed they were racist. Since racism these days includes just about everything, we wanted to explore this topic a bit further. Call us skeptics.

This is why she got fired...

After a mass shooting March 9 in Wilkinsburg in which police still have made no arrests, Ms. Bell wrote, in part, “You needn’t be a criminal profiler to draw a mental sketch of the killers who broke so many hearts two weeks ago Wednesday... they are young black men, likely in their teens or early 20s.

“They have multiple siblings from multiple fathers and their mothers work multiple jobs.”

She then wrote about a young African-American man, this one a worker she saw in a SouthSide Works restaurant. She said she called over the manager and praised the man, adding, “I wonder how long it had been since someone told him he was special.”

That was the "horribly racist" Facebook post that the leftist outrage mob got her fired for. Because tolerance thy name is leftism. When asked for further comment on the situation, Ms. Bell said...

“What matters is what’s going on in America, and it is the death of black people in this country. ... I live next to three war-torn communities in the city of Pittsburgh, that I love dearly. My stories, they struck a nerve. They touched people, but it’s not enough. More needs to be done. The problem needs to be addressed.”

Does that sound like a racist? Or does that sound like someone who is concerned about the violence going in in and around her neighborhood?

You may not like what Bell said or how she said it. But to call her racist is a bit of a stretch. Why? Well Bell might be basing her opinions on facts that leftists would rather sweep under the rug. The reason black people are more often arrested for crimes is because black people commit more crimes, despite being a smaller percentage of the population. Perhaps one reason black men commit more crimes than white men is because black men are more likely not to have their fathers around. You may not like that fact. Heck, I don't like that fact. But your feelings should enter in zero here. Black men often grow up in houses without fathers, then commit more crimes, leaving more babies without fathers. Viscous cycle much? Yes. Is hiding this fact under the guise of racism going to help at all? NO. The truth is ugly. Covering it up because you don't like it will not help anyone at all. It will just cover it up. While making you feel good about yourself.

So what Ms. Bell said is only racist if you believe truth is racist. But hey, we should be used to that. Saying gender is binary is bigoted. Telling someone with a penis that he's a man is hateful. Announcing life begins at conception is a war against women. Declaring the theory that man changes the planet's climate as utter horse manure is "anti-science." This is how the left works.
