Newest College Outrage: Dean Fired Merely For Saying 'Offensive' Book Title...
There is leftist, SJW outrage all across college campuses about the curriculum being too white (not to mention the cafeteria food and the students in general), and the demand that people be fired for it. A Dean at Seattle University agrees and wanted to add a book by a black author to her curriculum.
SJWs in return...still wanted her fired over it.
Dean Kelly's gravest offense? Apparently, recommending a bestselling autobiography from the Civil Rights movement. She—now a trending hashtag, #DearDeanKelly—offered activist writer-humorist Dick Gregory's Nigger to a student who asked for more "diversified reading." She claims to have relayed to the student what Gregory wrote in the book's Foreword concerning its provocative title "Dear Momma—Wherever you are, if you ever hear the word … again, you'll know they're advertising my book."While most uses of the word don't actually amp up publicity for Gregory's book, this episode at Seattle U certainly does. A few days before the dean's removal, Gregory himself wrote in an essay for Inside Higher Ed, "I am not offended by Dean Kelly's use of the word 'nigger.' In fact, I am pleased that she has the foresight to want to give these young men and women the knowledge, insight and experience of a civil rights activist that might just help them understand life a little better. I am disappointed that they seemed to have stopped at the title instead of opening the book and reading its contents."
For those of you unfamiliar, Dick Gregory is a comedian and a civil rights activist. And these students, who claim they want to read books by black authors, had a Dean removed from her position for - in the words of the black author in question - wanting to, "give these young men and women the knowledge, insight and experience of a civil rights activist that might just help them understand life a little better."
Which - white, black, or green - is supposed to be what college is about in the first place. Right? Wait...right?
No. These students claim they wanted "diverse" reading. The Dean gave them a book which, let's be honest here, not something you'd pick up at your local bookstore. If your local bookstore is still in business. Also, if it is, please understand that it is no doubt a front for the mob. Bookstores don't exist anymore. Back to the point. Students claim it was the wrong kind of "diverse." Because it had a word which was triggering. Even though that same word is used in a lot of popular music, namely by black men. Also, the author of the book in question? He's black. Sorry. "Person of color." Not to be confused with the formerly-acceptable-but-now-racist "colored person."
Not good enough for the Squishy Sensitive Students. But here's the thing. Rather than just saying, "Nah, I'd rather not read that book, but thanks," the SSS (Squishy Sensitive Students), are demanding the Dean be canned for daring to suggest a book written by a civil rights leader. Because the civil rights leader titled his book with a triggering term?
The lesson here? Appeasing crocodiles is futile. Professors, it doesnt matter how "progressive" you are. Eventually these students will come for you. It's only a matter of time. So stop coddling them. Nip this in the bud and give them a dose of reality on the outset. Rip it off like a band-aid. Because they accuse band-aids of being racist too (made for white people and what have you). This is just college right now. If you're thinking of attending one of these "institutions of higher learning" a suggestion: no. Save yourself, save your money, don't go. Read Dear High School Students: Don't Go to College. No Seriously...
