NRA-Endorsed Donald Trump Now Wants to Ban Americans from Buying Guns...
Due process.
Due process.
Due process.
Keep that in mind as you read this. We've always stayed fair to Donald Trump (see Donald Trump Launches Explosive First Ad. Exactly What You Hoped For and Donald Trump Releases Tax Plan. We Compare Directly With Bernie Sanders’…). Even when he tweeted this...
Now, I wanted to be fair. So I didn't write about it, because he said he wanted to talk "about" it and that could have meant just to reaffirm his support of the 2nd Amendment. I wanted to give as much benefit of the doubt as humanly possible.
"We have to make sure that people that are terrorists or have even an inclination toward terrorism cannot buy weapons, guns," the presumptive Republican nominee said in an interview to air Sunday on "This Week."When asked if his position is that those on the terror watch list shouldn't be able to purchase a gun, Trump responded, "I'd like to see that, and I'd like to say it. And it's simpler. It's just simpler."
That is the exact position of Democrats on gun ownership right now, much like when Donald Trump supported an assault weapons ban, which was the exact position of Democrats on gun ownership back then. By the way, it didn't work, and "assault weapon" was never clearly defined.
"But Crowder, he's only talking about terrorists. Why are you such a politically correct cuck?"
He's talking about people randomly put on a list without due process, collected by the same government and federal officials who missed all the warning signs in Orlando, and who have lost the suspects wife and father. Even if the government were competent, your name and my name can easily wind up on this list without reason nor a way to appeal. Poof, your Second Amendment rights, gone. But who cares, right?
Donald Trump has even suggested using "the no fly list" as a litmus test. Guess what? Many people I've personally known were put on said list. Many people you would know were accidentally put on that list. Including Stephen Hayes and Senator Ted Kennedy. Though the latter did kill a person, so it's not entirely unjustified.
Also, this is important to note: Omar Mateen was NOT on the "terror watch list" at the time of the Orlando terrorist attack. So it would have done nothing.
But that's not even the big issue. The big issue is the precedent we'd be setting where American citizens can lose their constitutional rights without any due process. Remove the fanboy glasses for one second and ask yourself: is that the kind of power you would want ANY President to have?
Because even if you loooooovve #Trump2016!!!!!, and he opens this door to this kind of a power grab, the next guy (or gal) will still be walking right through it. Because if they do it to The Second amendment, they can easily do it to The First.
We discussed this at length on this week's podcast. Watch before you disagree half-cocked in the comments section.
