Progressives, basking in their ignorance, foolishly believe firearms are sentient machines with a grudge against small schoolchildren. Basically, an Austrian accent short of a Terminator. For that reason, the boomers must go the way of the dinosaur. Leftists won't sleep until the blasters are pried from our hands. Cold, dead, or otherwise, it matters not. Well, the latest stats on accidental gun deaths are in and they aren't likely to bring a smile to anti-gunners' faces...

Good news on the topic of fatal firearms accidents. The National Safety Council’s “Injury Facts—2017 Edition ” shows that the number of fatal firearms accidents dropped 17 percent from 2014 to 2015 to 489, the lowest total since record-keeping began in 1903. That’s about three-tenths of 1 percent of the 146,571 total accidental deaths from all other listed causes, which are up 8 percent from 2014 to 2015. It should be noted that the decrease, which was the largest percentage decline of any category, came in a year that saw record firearms sales to many millions of Americans.

“This latest release from the National Safety Council shows that the vast majority of the 100 million American firearms owners meet the serious responsibilities which come with firearms ownership,” said NSSF President and CEO Steve Sanetti. “They store their firearms safely and securely when not in use, and follow the basic rules of firearms safety when handling them.

I'm sure, for the gun control crowd, that's a real shot to the gut...

Notice where at the same time the deaths went down, there were a crap ton of guns sold? According to leftists, more guns automatically equal more business for the gravedigger. Except, these stats showed the exact opposite. Now, we're not saying more guns automatically equal less death. The point is there's much more to the issue than the quantity of gats on the streets.

Leftists will say since gun accidents happen, we can't trust our peeps to pack heat. Those same folks could easily do as much damage with a Honda Civic as they can with a Smith & Wesson. When it comes to gun accidents, the blame rests entirely on the shooter. Carrying a piece is a simple affair. Point in a safe direction, keep the safety on, and keep your booger hook off the boom switch. Always do those things and nobody will get capped. Except of course for the bad guys. But, they deserve it.

The fact is a gun is an inanimate hunk of steel. It's only as good or evil as the man, woman, or asexual genderqueer holding it. But the left never wants to acknowledge the individual pulling the trigger, instead focusing on the millions of guns (and their owners) who've never shot even a fly. They'll instead pivot to random freak accidents, saying "SEE, SEE! DANGER!" Accidents can and will always happen, whether it's a gun, a car, or a can-opener. That's called common sense, leftists. Learn some.
