In the wake of a mass shooting, everyone is rushing to point to a cause. The right points to the moronic gun control policies of the left which make it difficult for Americans to protect themselves and others. The left points to points at the right and screams about their deadly obsession with firearms and the lack of concern for American lives. Allie Beth Stuckey just pointed at everyone and dropped a truth bomb no one really wants to acknowledge right now: This country is failing our young men.

In a somewhat lengthy thread on Twitter, Stuckey, a conservative commentator, pointed out the numerous ways in which our country is failing our young men and boys, both in the home and out in the community, and the entire thing is worth a read, but I'll just point out some of the parts that really struck a chord with me, and you can go check out the entire thing if you want.

She begins by simply saying, "We seem to be horribly failing the young men of this country. [...] We are doing absolutely everything wrong when it comes to promoting healthy masculinity, purpose, & goodness for these boys and men."

"Maybe we should all ask - what are our churches, schools, organizations, neighborhoods doing to address this problem? How are we helping fatherless, purposeless boys? Many are already doing good work. We can all do more."

It's important to point out something here. "We can all do more." That's ALL--left, right, and center. I think we need to remember that, and I'm guilty of forgetting this from time to time, as well. But Stuckey isn't going to let us forget it this time.

She goes on to cite a report that said the shooter had a terrible home life--he lived with his grandmother, his mother was a drug addict, and his father didn't appear to be in the picture. What can we expect of such boys growing up in that situation? Perhaps they won't all attempt to shoot up a school--in fact, most of them probably won't--but why does it have to come to that for us to take notice and understand that it is incumbent upon us all to improve those circumstances in whatever way we can.

Amen.

I think Stuckey has given us plenty to think about, and it's important that we do think about it. This country can do so much better.
