Amazon Cites Ocasio-Cortez, Other Democrats for "Never Amazon" in New York
New Yorkers just lots 25,000 or so jobs. Great jobs. The city of New York just lost a crap ton of taxes which would've been generated from those jobs and the corporation itself. But what's billions of dollars in revenue when you're a socialist on Twitter pretending to give a crap about real people? Amazon intended to build a second headquarters in Long Island City, New York, but after three months of harping from "the people's champion" like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the tech giant is canceling its plans.
"It wasn't any one incident," Jodi Seth said in an interview. "It was that the environment over the course of the past three months had not got any better. There were some local and state elected officials who refused to meet with Amazon and criticized us day in and day out about the plan."
Just imagine you have all the money in the world and want to build up an area of a city you love, to both improve it and provide jobs and opportunities for the people in it. Only to have a couple of leaders of that town hiss and spit at you. You probably wouldn't move in, you'd find another great city which didn't treat you as some kind of infectious skin rash.
"If you talk to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, it's 'Never Amazon,'" Seth said. "If you talk to [New York City Councilman Jimmy] Van Bramer, it's unions." (New York is still a heavily unionized town, and Amazon's opposition to unions was frequently cited by those who fought the project.)
Ocasio-Cortez has branded herself as a champion of the people. But she just screwed her own people out of real jobs which paid much more than minimum wage. Amazon doesn't have to build in New York, they can build wherever they'd like, or simply expand in their existing locations. New York's politicos' treatment of Amazon will also signal to other businesses or corporations looking to expand. If you think Nina Pinta's actions won't have ripple effects, think again.
