Captain America actor backtracks from "anti-America" comments in record time (while a 2017 clip resurfaces)
That was quick. When Captain America: Brave New World actor Anthony Mackie was caught on video saying Captain America shouldn't be called Captain America, Disney knew they had yet another PR catastrophe on their hands. Only unlike Snow White, where after the woke actress dumped on everything people love about the story, lashed out at over half the country who had a different opinion than her, and then cried victim, Mackie realized his oopsie.
The actor clarified on Instagram, “I'm a proud American, and taking on the shield of a hero like Cap is the honor of a lifetime. I have the utmost respect for those who serve and have served our country."
Anthony Mackie clarifies his previous comment about what Captain America means to him:

If you missed yesterday's story, Mackie was caught on video saying of the patriotic superhero, “Captain America represents a lot of different things, and I don’t think the term ‘America’ should be one of those representations."
That nine-second clip went viral so your favorite clickbait accounts could cash their engagement checks from Cousin Elon. If you watched the longer clip, the actor continued, "It’s about a man who keeps his word, who has honor, dignity, and integrity.”
Former Captain America actor Chris Evans, the worst Chris, commented similarly when he played the role "I'm not trying to get too lost in the American side of it. I've said before in interviews that it feels more like he should just be called Captain Good."
Neither actor was shitting on America, per se. Mackie made a clumsy attempt to explain to non-Americans why they should care about a character called "Captain America." But in pandering to a global audience, he wound up saying that Captain America doesn't represent American values. The character could be called Captain Italy or Captain Bangladesh and be just as good. There's a reason why the movies have "The First Avenger," "The Winter Soldier," "Brave New World," etc. as part of the title. It's so Disney can drop the "Captain America" part if and when needed.
What's funny is when you hear these 2017 comments Mackie made about what filmmaking has turned into. Hint: Nothing more than a need to pander to foreign markets. "The evolution of the superhero has meant the death of the movie star. And that's the fear now because you're now making movies for sixteen-year-olds and China. And that's it."

These are ironic comments for a man who, since he made them, has assumed the role of Captain America and will be making those movies he complained about for the rest of his life. And making them for China, where they rewrite movies and force actors to bend over for the communist Chinese. Hence, an actor playing Captain AMERICA talking to film critics outside of America needs to downplay the American part of Captain America. Yes, I know yesterday's comments were from Italy and not China, but you still get the point.
EXIT QUESTION: This has nothing to do with the controversy, but am I the only one who, no matter how many other roles an actor has, you still only think of them from the first role you saw them in? No matter what else he does, I see Anthony Mackie and I see his portrayal of Tupac in Notorious.
