Akaash Singh Defends Apu from 'The Simpsons': 'Difference Between Your Hurt Feelings and Being Oppressed'
Immediately after reading this post, go watch Akaash Singh's new comedy special "Bring Back Apu." Read this post first. But after that, Singh's special was hysterical, and you need to make sure you see it.
Akaash is a comedian who does a podcast with fellow comedian Andrew Schulz. Schulz is the guy who first started asking about who ordered the hit on Joe Rogan. After Rogan and Akaash discussed how having a podcast can sometimes get you in trouble, they talked about the comedy special and some angry comments Singh has been getting. I'm guessing a lot of them were from white liberals, but that wasn't specified.

"[There's a] difference between your hurt feelings and being oppressed. Your hurt feelings valid. Kids made fun of me for it. That's valid. That hurt. I can go talk to a therapist. But you're not f*cking oppressed. And that's what I thought canceling Apu was. It was 'we think we're oppressed and we're not."
Apu was eleventy-five social justice outrages ago, so let's recap: Some guy released a documentary about how Apu, with his stereotypical Indian accent voiced by a white actor, ruined his childhood. At first, "The Simpsons" laughed it off. But then the actor Hank Azaria wanted to signal his virtue to other liberals. He stopped doing the voice and apologized for ever voicing the character. Even though, as Rogan and Singh point out, he did twelve other voices and Apu was just one of them. They also couldn't remember Hank Azaria's name.
"The Simpsons" then removed Apu as a character, who Singh calls one of the few three-dimensional characters the show had. Here's his bit from his comedy special:
"What was racist about Apu? Here is a brown man married to a beautiful brown woman. Owns his own business selling overpriced products to unwitting white people. Apu is not racist. He's the American dream."
Hell yeah, brother!
If you are into things like laughing, make sure you check out "Bring Back Apu!"
