Arming Teachers? These Students Actually Feel Safer Because Of It
Quick mental exercise: what (or whom) has security (armed or patrolled by someone who could be armed but you're just not sure)? See how many persons, places or things you can list in a minute. Report back via your imagination (we don't have time to answer y'all). Chances are you at least listed these places: airports, banks, or anywhere which hosts important people. Yeah? Cool. Becuase a number of Parkland students have pointed out an armed teacher could have prevented at least some of the tragedy (see Parkland JROTC Student: Hero Coach Should Have Been Armed and Parkland High School Student: I Don’t Think Gun Control Would Have Prevented This). Other schools, like in New Mexico, look to prevent it from ever happening.
At a parochial school in New Mexico, many of the teachers carry guns as a precaution. One pastor carries a .45 in a case that looks like a Bible. The principal is also armed with a .38 semi-automatic pistol.
In one of their classrooms, students say they feel safer knowing there are adults with the weapons.
None of this is funny. Though the pastor with a .45 in a hollowed-out Bible definitely comes close. Amen, amen I say to you, thou shalt carry a gun requiring but one lethal shot. Also, thanks for informing a would-be criminal that you hide your gun in a hollowed-out Bible.
I don't like the idea of weaponizing schools. Or arming teachers. Whoever wanted children to have heavily armed security? When we think of our young whippersnappers, we mainly associate them with young things like the admiration of boy bands. The avoidance of responsibility. Pep rallies. Not .45s and German Shepherd attack dogs. Though what better way to pep a rally than playful gunfire and snarling dogs? I kid. It's a JOKE!
Here's the thing, though the idea of teachers locking and loading isn't one I favor, it's preferable to the left's solution: tossing the Second Amendment. Excuse me, I mean "common sense gun reform." They all heart the Second Amendment. Especially as they hire their own armed guards.
Maybe we should protect our schools like the super wealthy protect their cash. Children are valuable, right?
