Army Lowers Physical Standards for Lady Infantrymen. Most STILL Can't Hack it...
Looking back on the past few years, you may recall every fauxhawked lesbian and her feminist book club bitching about "not enough opportunity" for women in the military. Since then, opportunity has been presented, rules have been changed, and paths have been paved all for the sake of a few women who want to be in the military, like, super duper really badly. Just maybe not badly enough to meet the pull up requirement (see Pull-ups Optional for (Wimpy) Female Marines).
Despite physical setbacks, some of the Army's infantry ladies have managed to make it through their training program. "Some" meaning little more than half of those who signed up. And only after the standards were made lower than the sagged pantaloons of a young cholo...
America's first female Army Infantrymen are here, but not all of them made it through. In fact, only eighteen of the thirty-two female infantry recruits made it through the One Station Unit Training (OSUT) program at Fort Benning, Georgia. While the attrition rate doesn't seem all that alarming, it strikes a more concerning tone when factoring in that the females needed only to meet the much-lower female standards for physical fitness...
"No way," one soldier told Popular Military when asked if women were held to the same standards. "Lighter rucks, things like that."
Leadership attributed the high female attrition rates in the class -nearly fifty percent- to a private's size and stamina when carrying the standard 35-pound rucksack and combat loads, with most of the women only around or under 5'4 and weighing less than 125 pounds.
The problem isn't that some women want to fight for their country. It's that progress has demanded the military bend the rules so those women can join. Which isn't exactly the point of the military. These fitness rules ensure infantrymen are prepared to protect themselves and each other in combat. It used to be that joining the military toughened chaps up. Key phrase is "used to be." Now...
Even with rules bent, turns out the majority of these women can't hack it. Hence they're not clamoring for infantry roles (see LOL: Army Opens Combat Roles for Women. Women Don't Join...). Which is okay. We aren't looking at women to be the she-hulk guardians of the world because, you know, we have dudes for that. Bernie-voting beta males excluded. It's just that all the feminist she beasts cried "IT'S NOT FAIR, WE WANT FIGHT TOOSIES!" only not so much. All crying for nothing. Maybe put some of that boo-hoo-energy into lifting thy own body weight up to a bar, ladies. Then over a wall. Maybe splash around in a bath of soapy water while you're at it. Just suggestions.
Here, allow Mark Rippetoe to explain...
