New NYTimes Poll Shows Donald Trump Has Key Support in Battleground States
President Trump has a lot to be thankful for this year. But nothing more than the Democrat party. All they had to do was not be crazy (see WATCH: #DemDebate Calls for Abortion Rights for Transgenders Who are Actual Dudes and WATCH: Andrew Yang Wants to Tax Cow Farts to Control Your Diet). Now according to this New York Times poll, battleground state voters who voted Democrat 2018... are going Trump in 2020.
Nearly two-thirds of voters in six battleground states who voted for President Trump in 2016 — but for Democratic congressional candidates in 2018 — say they intend to back the president against each of his top rivals, according to recent polling by The New York Times Upshot/Siena College. The Democrats’ relatively moderate House candidates succeeded in large part by flipping a crucial segment of voters who backed the president in 2016.
Many of the white working-class voters in the Rust Belt who supported the president in 2016 were traditionally Democratic voters who backed President Obama in 2012 and even continued to vote Democratic down-ballot in 2016.
Here's where the crazy comes in. During the midterms, generally speaking, people don't vote for a party's entire agenda. They vote for one person they think makes more sense than another person. That varies from Park Slope, NY to Garland, TX, to SuburbVille, WI to West Dempographic Town, PA. Where voters hate eleventy percent of Congress but think their guy is pretty cool.
Presidential years are all about the top of the ticket. Where the Democrat Party has made it clear they only care about Park Slope and Twitter activists for some reason. Last I checked, Twitter carries zero electoral votes. All the Democrat presidential candidates seem to care about it appealing to the radical extreme of their party. It's who their entire agenda and entire platform is written for. At the expense of members of their party who aren't batsh!t crazy.
People who vote for their local Democrat in 2018 are looking at 2020 and saying to themself, "Self, Trump may be a jerk and I wish Melania would replace his phone with a squeaky toy. But at least he cares about jobs and the economy."
