Bill Maher Blames Stan Lee for Donald Trump Getting Elected
For a lot of people of my generation, Stan Lee's death was like losing a grandfather. As has been said elsewhere, Lee was our generation's Walt Disney. The characters he created hold meaning for millions of us. But a few days of tributes were too much for Bill Maher. No, I'm not a Maher-hater. But it takes a real dick to get upset over people mourning their hero. Especially someone like Stan Lee, who was with us our whole lives.
Maher's comments on Real Time weren't the real stupidity. That came when he doubled down on his blog with this floating think turd:
I’m not saying we’ve necessarily gotten stupider. The average Joe is smarter in a lot of ways than he was in, say, the 1940s, when a big night out was a Three Stooges short and a Carmen Miranda musical. The problem is, we’re using our smarts on stupid stuff. I don’t think it’s a huge stretch to suggest that Donald Trump could only get elected in a country that thinks comic books are important.
The only way this analogy works is if we say Trump is like Marvel Comics and Hillary Clinton is DC Comics. Because Marvel wins and DC whines for a year about being treated as inferior. See, THAT'S how your trigger comic book nerds. Hopefully none of them show up while I'm having coffee and throw their inhalers at me.
Also, Bill Maher obviously hasn't spoken to comic book fans. Many comic nerds are diehard leftists, to the left of even Bill Maher (see Bill Maher Slams Social Justice Warriors for Behavior During Kavanaugh Hearings and Bill Maher Credits Republicans Willingness to Speak With Liberals For Trump’s Victory). I'd guess most of the people blasting Maher on blogs are the same leftists who protest whenever Maher has a speaking engagement, especially if the engagement involves a non-leftist.
So not exactly right-leaning MAGA fanboys.
Find a better way to tell people to get off your lawn, Bill. Besides trashing a fanbase which isn't yours.
