Blinged-Out Bishop Robbed During Livestream: 'What God Is Gonna Do to Y'all Is Above My Pay Grade'
A New York bishop is pretty heated after he and his wife were robbed during a live-streamed service on Sunday. The three men, reports the New York Post, ran into the church and relieved Bishop Lamor Miller-Whitehead and his wife of approximately $1,060,000 in bling. So much for that vow of poverty, right?
The list of items includes several rings, watches, and gold chains. But, hey, Miller-Whitehead gotz 'em on camera. And he's calling on his community in the streets to give any and all information to the police.
The bishop also took a moment to defend his, uh, lavish spending, after someone had accused him of being flashy with the bling. But he assures us, "It's not about me being flashy. It's about me purchasing what I want to purchase."
Fair enough, homeskillet, but aren't you supposed to be a church leader? What kind of salary are you collecting exactly? And how much good could that money do in your community if it weren't dangling around your neck to attract jewelry thieves to your church? I have questions, but I must be one of the only ones. The bishop's Instagram videos have numerous comments voicing support and sending well-wishes.
I have my suspicions, but I doubt there will be any difficulty in acquiring new bling.
Stealing is bad, and the punks who robbed this man and his wife deserve to go to jail, but I have difficulty sympathizing with anyone who was ordained under the tutelage of Joel Osteen. Rocking a $390,000 chain and a $75,000 Rolex, rolling down the street in a Rolls Royce, makes me think you're more concerned with the here and now instead of the hereafter, but that's just me.
(The pastor from Don't Be a Menace immediately comes to mind.)
But he remains certain God is on his side, though, saying of the crooks who jacked him, "What God is gonna do to y’all is above my paygrade."
It does say something about redemption, though, to see a man bounce back so well after five years in prison for fraud and grand larceny. God bless.
