Crime-Ridden Washington DC Spends $270k To (Checks Notes) Repaint BLM Outside White House
We all know actions speak louder than words. So when officials spend resources to virtue-signal their support to an anti-police institution, let’s just say it does not take much to see where their priorities are.
The Washington, DC Department of Transportation will repaint the Black Lives Matter slogan on a street in the nation’s capital at a cost of over $270,000 at the taxpayer's expense, Judicial Watch announced.
“On June 5, 2020, after days of protests and riots in DC led by the Black Lives Matter movement, a team of artists, residents, District employees, and demonstrators painted ‘Black Lives Matter’ in 50-foot-tall yellow capital letters and the District’s crest, which resembles three stars above an ‘equals’ sign, on 16th Street NW near the White House. The following day, demonstrators painted ‘Defund the Police,’ a key demand of the Black Lives Matter movement, alongside the ‘Black Lives Matter” message,’ according to the press release.
The painting in the slogan occurred one month before D.C.'s City Council sanctioned a $15 million cut in police funding in 2020. The latest statistics from the area show violent crime is up by 40 percent this year compared to the previous year, while homicides have surged by 25 percent.
“DC crime is out of control but local leaders continue to waste $270,000 in tax money promoting the extremist Black Lives Matter movement in the heart of Washington DC that is racist, anti-police, anti-American, and often violent,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton, according to the press release.
The police department has roughly 400 fewer officers than it did three years ago, according to the Washington Examiner. Do you think that painting “Defund the Police” may have had something to do with the officers leaving in droves?
The City Council approved a $526.1 million police budget for 2023, which was nearly $100 million less than the budget in 2020.
Does not seem like officials are getting the picture here.
The City Council has also enacted pro-criminal policies that have caused crime to skyrocket.
Crime is exploding in D.C. but hey, why not spend resources on an organization whose ideology arguably helped enable this whole mess?
How much safer do you think residents will feel now that they are finally painting over that sign? If you ask me, this only proves to the world that DC officials are committed to a culture of lawlessness.
And does it really take $270k to repaint that ugly sign?
