Anti-Gun 'Miss Sloane' BOMBS HARD at the Box Office. The Numbers...
Poor Hollywood. They try so hard to push an anti-Second Amendment agenda (see Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Hollywood Friends Lecture Us About Guns and SNL Sketch Pushes “Gun Control.” Fails Miserably). While also pushing how guns are totes cool by featuring them on their movie posters. But you're supposed to ignore that, you hick.
Hollywood thought they had something with Jessica Chastain's Miss Sloane. I mean it features a "strong female lead" who's going up against "the man" via gun lobbies led by scary white men. According to today's liberal pop culture, this film should've hulk-smashed the box office. Instead, the movie totally tanked on opening weekend (h/t to Stephen Gutowski who does great Second Amendment work).
In a way few movies have totally tanked before...
Miss Sloane, the gun control thriller starring Jessica Chastain, over the weekend posted one of the worst performances of the past 35 years for a movie in wide release. The movie pulled in $1,167 on average at the 1,648 theaters across the country it was shown in. It made $1,922,300, meaning it was the 11th-highest grossing movie in the country. It is number 79 on Box Office Mojo’s list of Worst Opening Weekend by Per-Theater Average since 1982.
That means Miss Sloane earned less money per theater than Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Shaun the Sheep Movie, Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace, and Gigli.
It earned less per theatre than Gigli. Gigli.
Pardon me...
Serious question: Do actors, in their puffy Hollywood brains, make movies like this and honestly think "Wow, THIS will really change things? I'm so proud to be a part of this film. I'll accept the Oscar, or the Golden Globe if my performance wasn't quite good enough." Or do they know the movie will drop like a stink bomb, and just collect the paycheck?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Because America is, was, and ever shall be a country which loves its guns. Thanks in part to a little skirmish we had with the tea-swilling Brits circa 1776. It was the first #Brexit. A shining moment in America's history. Also proof that America has always been divided, but that's a subject for another post.
You know who else loves their guns? Hollywood actors with armed bodyguards. Also the studio fat cats, middle management, all the way down to the gaffers. Who all enjoy armed security guarding the studio gates. Just saying.
But right, you Americans who aren't "important enough" to make make-believe stories for films which are later aimed at you for your entertainment? How dare you want to keep your guns. You must be a bunch of racist hick haters. Or something. Now shell out $10/ticket to watch our propaganda!
