Bond is the quintessential man’s man. He’s a bad*ss dude who always kills the bad guys and gets the bodacious babes. What man doesn’t wish they were a Bond-like man. Well, that might all change since Daniel Craig has decided to hang up his hat insofar as the role of 007.

In an interview with Anna Smith, host of the “Girls on Film” podcast, Barbara Broccoli, the producer of the Bond films, entertained the idea of destroying the character of Bond by making him non-binary.

“Who knows? I mean, I think it’s open. We just have to find the right actor.”

I don’t think it is open, though. Nor do I believe Broccoli thinks it’s open.

In a previous interview, she stated that Bond was definitely a man. He “can be of any color, but he is a male.” And I think this is something on which we can all agree. Find the right actor to play the role—black, white, whatever—so long as it’s a man who looks and acts like a Bond, and the audience will give it a shot. But start messing with those basic character traits, and the franchise might as well just beg for its own demise.
