Hot off the wire is this story coming out of New York. Details aren't clear yet, but it looks like multiple people are dead from being either hit by a truck or shot. Reports say the authorities are investigating the incident as a terrorist attack.

Police and witnesses say a motorist drove onto a busy bicycle path near the World Trade Center memorial and struck several people, then emerged from the vehicle screaming and fired what appeared to be a gun.

Six people were killed in what was described as an intentional act, sources told CBS News. The NYPD tweeted that the driver exited the car displaying imitation firearms and was shot by police officers.

Law enforcement sources said the incident is being investigated as a terror attack, CBS News' Pat Milton reports.

Some reports are saying the suspect shouted "Allahu Akbar" during the attack.

There's even some footage going around allegedly showing the hooded suspect running down the street.

This is not looking good.

Just to be clear, the facts are still coming in right now. We have no official confirmation whether this was an actual terrorist attack or not. So, until the authorities make an official statement, everything is hearsay and speculation.

But, having said that, all the elements are present. A truck in a public place with reports of gunshots. A suspect supposedly in custody. Again, even with the alleged shoutout to Allah, there's still no telling if said suspect is a devoted fangirl of Muhammad or a loony deadbeat off his meds. But, it's becoming clear this was no accident.

We'll no doubt keep you posted as the facts come in. But, regardless whether the perp mowed these people down in the name of Allah or Adolf Hitler, I think we can all agree he's a major dick.
