Before we get to Congressman Steve Scalise, please bear this in mind: it's breaking news and pretty much everyone knows nothing. I waited as long as I could hoping to get confirmed reports about anything. But in the wake of a shooting, all there is rampant speculation, little-confirmed facts. Okay? Okay.

At the time of this writing, no CONFIRMED motive is known, though it's speculated he was a Bernie Sanders supporter (read more below). SPECULATED.

So, here's what we actually know. Here's a press conference (was live). I couldn't time stamp it for you. Apologies.

Tuesday morning, House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and others were shot during a Congressional baseball practice. All we know right now is that police have a suspect, and it could have been a lot worse had Capitol Police not been there. So props to the Capitol Police. Major props.

Below is a CNN (I know, I know, CNN, really?) They have an eyewitness account from Rep Mo Brooks. So it passes muster.

And here is where the "reportedly" and speculation begins. Again, at the time of this writing, no CONFIRMED motive is known. So grains of salt. Take them.

Alleged, ALLEGED, post from the ALLEGED shooter. Looks like he hates the GOP:

Here's where the right-leaning media lost their minds:

Except maybe not. Because some reports have the shooter dressed in running clothes, while the guy inquiring about party affiliation was wearing jeans. Or vice versa. Meaning: NO ONE ACTUALLY KNOWS if the two are linked. They could be.

Predictably, some on the left are already pushing gun control. Hard. But that's what they do every time someone gets shot.

Right-leaning media is blaming the recent uptick in violence against political rhetoric (specifically how Antifa has been allowed free range) as incubating wackos who think they're acts of violence against people with differing political views is justified. That one is rather hard to ignore when one looks at the recent entertainment news of the past month. Like Kathy Griffin posing with a decapitated Trump head, or a Trump look-a-like used in a modern take on Julius Caesar. BUT I WANT TO MAKE IT CLEAR: We still don't know WHAT the motive is as we only have an ALLEGEd shooter. I'm sorry for the all caps. Have to be careful. It's difficult to report on breaking news and balancing what we know with what we think we might know, maybe.

But we cannot deny the recent political violence, either. I hate having to say it but it's true. Republicans have been falsely painted as Nazis. Is that why the baseball game was targeted? We don't know.

For now, let's just pray that this wasn't as bad as it easily could have been.
