Video: NYT Columnist Slams Bill Maher for Smug, Leftist Elitism...
Ever since leftists got their rear ends handed to them in last year's election, they've been trying to figure out exactly where they went wrong. Where would we even begin on that one? To explain it fully it would take many hours and as many Powerpoint slides as Tess Holliday needs fabric.
Bret Stephens has a pretty good idea of where to start:
Bill Maher tonight spoke with New York Times columnist Bret Stephens about something they have in common: “pissing off liberals.”But then Maher asked Stephens for what he thinks the biggest problem liberals have is, and Stephens cited Maher’s own show.
He explained that the last time he was on Real Time, Maher was making fun of Senator Joni Ernst over an anecdote about how she wore bread bags on her feet when she was young. And while it might play well for a laugh with liberals, Stephens continued, it comes across differently to people in Iowa or in Wisconsin.
Maher told Stephens this is the same kind of over-sensitive “snowflake-ism” he doesn’t like on the left, asking if people really can’t take a joke.
Ah, but you misunderstand Bill. You and your fellow left-wingers are free to mock Joni Ernst, conservatives, and the poor all you want. The rest of us are free to call you a douchenugget for doing so. That's how free speech works.
I'm not going to sit here and pretend to be all offended by Bill's jokes. We've told our fair share of less-than-politically-correct knee-slappers, ourselves. There's poking gentle fun at Michael Moore's gelatinous bubble-butt. Then there's thumbing your smug leftist nose at half of the country. Pretty big difference there. Not as big as Michael Moore's aforementioned posterior.
Leftists like to argue from an imaginary position of authority. When people see elitist celebrities talking down to them like they're six-years-old? They tend to do the opposite of what the celebs say. Despite what limousine liberals think, we're perfectly capable of thinking for ourselves without Sean Penn's "expert" tutelage.
It seems most leftists have a neurological defect that prevents them from noticing their flaws. When they lose, they never stop to ask what they did wrong. Instead, they write 500-pages of excuses and label the people who beat them as uneducated racist meanypants. Real head-scratcher.
