There are any number of ways one could describe former CNN journalismer Brian Stelter. "A man of paralyzing stupidity." "Basically a prostitute." The most common way, however, is with a single word: potato. Stelter explained why people call him a potato and, you guessed it, it's Fox News's fault.
No, NOT the fact he looks like a potato.
Stelter has another anti-Fox book out, and in it, he talks about how Fox News creates "villains" in their own "universe." So does CNN and MSNBC, of course. But I know that that you know that I know it doesn't count where they do it. Stelter was a star in conservative media, yet ironically enough not on his own show on CNN.
Brian Stelter: "I once had a potato mailed to me. I showed it to my kids. It's because that within the Fox Universe, I used to be called Humpty Dumpty. From there, it became 'Brian is a Potato'.
Imagine being such a Potato head you can't explain why your nickname is 'Potato… pic.twitter.com/jPd9mZr6C0

It's because that within the Fox Universe, I used to be called Humpty Dumpty.
Stelter used to be called "Humpty Dumpty" by anyone with functioning eyes.
Though Sean Hannity did call him "Humpty Dumpty" to his face once. Stelter shared the excerpt in another book of his: "Hannity greeted me by putting both his hands on my shoulders and exclaiming: "Humpty!" His nickname for me was Humpty Dumpty. I asked if he ever felt bad about the name-calling. "No," he said. He took his hands off my shoulders and moved toward the bar."
I think Stelter shared the story because he thought it made Hannity look bad. SPOILER: It did not.
From there, it became 'Brian is a Potato'.
Thank Donald Trump Jr. for that one: "If Hasboro really wanted a gender-neutral Potato Head so badly they should just slap a picture of CNN’s Brian Stelter on the cover of their next potato. They don’t call him Mr. Potato Head for nothing."
Poor Stelter. He went from a career watching Fox News and complaining about it on CNN, to watching Fox News and complaining about it on a podcast.
