Fifty years after we put an end to segregation, California State University Los Angeles has decided to bring back segregated housing. Sure, it sounds super racist to "white folks" like you and me. It may even sound super racist to you "people of color." In fact I'll go out on a limb here. What Cal State LA is doing sounds racist to anyone who uses their noggin as their primary thought-processor. Separating black people from everyone else? That's so 1940s.

It's ok though. Black Lives Matter approves.

The arrangement comes roughly nine months after the university’s Black Student Union issued a set of demands in response to what its members contend are frequent “racist attacks” on campus, such as “racially insensitive remarks” and “microaggressions” by professors and students. One demand was for a “CSLA housing space delegated for Black students.”

“[It] would provide a cheaper alternative housing solution for Black students. This space would also serve as a safe space for Black CSLA students to congregate, connect, and learn from each other,” the demand letter stated.

The newly debuted Halisi Scholars Black Living-Learning Community “focuses on academic excellence and learning experiences that are inclusive and non-discriminatory,” Cal State LA spokesman Robert Lopez told The College Fix via email.

We have a lot to unpack here, so grab a snack. Maybe some biscotti with your coffee. Black people like biscotti with coffee, yes? Oh, sorry, is that a racist thing to assume all black people are the same? 'Cause I thought, after reading what I just read in the pull quote above, it's now the politically correct thing to do. It sounds like black student groups believe all black students are poor, put-upon, overly sensitive ninnymuggins in need of extra coddling and security blankets. But not security blankets with the late, great Harambe stitched on there, because that's also apparently racist. Because these "frequent 'racist attacks'" they're citing? Include "racially insensitive remarks" and "microaggressions." Words. They're words. The Black Student Union believes black students are wimps and can't handle some words. Perhaps one such insensitive remark might be: "Do you want to watch the basketball game with us?" The problem? ASSUMING all black people like basketball.

RACISM!

Yet the Black Student Union assumes all black people need safe spaces "remarks." Words. Remarks are words.

Another example: Say for you're at a BBQ. There's watermelon. Someone offers a black student a slice of watermelon. Not because black, but because summer. Microaggression.

Look, at the end of the day, if people want to live with people they are more comfortable around, I say God bless. That's not the issue here. The issue also isn't basketball, watermelon or biscotti. But maybe it should be.

A couple of things...

1. LOL at white people asking to live with other white people. Imagine the outrage if a White Student Union formed, and they wrote a demand letter to [pick your university] asking for a white only space. I bet you don't have to imagine to hard, do you?

2. Have you ever noticed stories of racism and microaggressions always seem to happen at the most liberal of liberal colleges? I thought liberals were the open-minded and tolerant ones, yet there's apparently so much racism going on that segregated housing is a solution. The open-minded, tolerant, "We are the World," students who attend these universities have so tormented the "people of color" students with their watermelon offerings and basketball invitations, the Black Student Union people need a designated "safe space."

Gawd.

But sure, Donald Trump is called a racist for wanting to build a wall. The Black Student Union wanting black students in their black-only safe space? That's "open-minded." Border security?
