Adolf Hitler and his Nazi party are famous for many things. Among them, the slaughter of innocent Jews, gun reform, public school systems, and Adolf's foray into triggering choices in facial hair. But Hitler also liked to warm his hands over the flames of burning books. The only knowledge Hitler and his brown-shirted minions wanted the people to have had to be cleared by the government first. Gotta protect the people from scary books containing knowledge, facts, stories, and the dreaded verboten opinions of others. Which is my segue into this story: California leftists want to ban the sale of certain books. Specifically, books which run counter to the LGBT narrative.

Assembly Bill 2943 would make it an “unlawful business practice” to engage in “a transaction intended to result or that results in the sale or lease of goods or services to any consumer” that advertise, offer to engage in, or to engage in “sexual orientation change efforts with an individual.”

So "goods" like books, which offer advice on how to not be homosexual. Books which are not forced on anyone, by the way. The free market is still in existence, despite the best efforts of hairy bridge trolls transitioning into bridge manatees. Should someone see a book they don't want to buy, they don't have to buy it. Books aren't Obamacare.

The bill then defines “sexual orientations change efforts” as “any practices that seek to change an individual’s sexual orientation. This includes efforts to change behaviors or gender expressions, or to eliminate or reduce sexual or romantic attractions or feelings toward individuals of the same sex.”

There are also books in stores about "How to lose weight" or "Ten steps to chiseled abs" with "Be that adonis you think you are when you secretly check yourself out in every reflective surface from the parking lot to the mall" and the like. Maybe even books about "You keep picking the wrong mates, and that's why you've been divorced four times." If not "All the bad relationships in your life have one thing in common: you." Find all these books in the "Self-help" aisle.

But what California Nazis are trying to do is ban the sale of any book which dare suggest "You don't have to feel this way." Right now this bill applies to books which offer help on how to fight the compelling desire to grab Tom's bulging package. If you happen to also be a dude. Lest the ladies feel left out, maybe there's a book out there offering enlightenment on why you should find Ryan Gosling more attractive than Snooki.

Today the left wants to ban certain books which don't agree with the LGBT agenda (does the Bible count?), but tomorrow it could be banning books about weight loss. Climate change "denial." Biographies on the Founding Fathers, many of whom owned slaves.

Yeah, a slippery slope argument. I just made one. No apologies.

The First Amendment gives people the right to write or say whatever they darn well please. It doesn't give anyone the right to remove speech simply because said speech offends them. Furthermore, if an LGBT person doesn't want to be LGBT, that's their choice. If they want to research how to be straight, fine. Similarly, if a straight person wants to read about LGBT things, they're free to do so.

California leftists hate choice. They hate freedom. They can't trust you to do the "right" thing. So they go full Nazi in response.
