CALIFORNIA: Governor Jerry Brown Goes Full Nazi with Oppressive Water Restrictions
Don't say we didn't warn you about the perils of socialism, especially when it comes to rationing. California, the poster child for American socialism, is about to tell residents how much water they're allowed. Lest they're ratted out to the authorities and fined.
Hat tip to Zero Hedge:
The bill, until January 1, 2025, would establish 55 gallons per capita daily as the standard for indoor residential water use, beginning January 1, 2025, would establish the greater of 52.5 gallons per capita daily or a standard recommended by the department and the board as the standard for indoor residential water use, and beginning January 1, 2030, would establish the greater of 50 gallons per capita daily or a standard recommended by the department and the board as the standard for indoor residential water use. The bill would impose civil liability for a violation of an order or regulation issued pursuant to these provisions, as specified.
55 gallons may sound like a lot, but it isn't. Especially if you live with more than a gerbil. Your washer, dishwasher, showers, hand-washing, toilets all require water. Not the hopes and dreams of women's studies majors. And that doesn't include filling your coffee machine, watering your indoor or outdoor plants, filling the cat or dog bowls, or giving your lawn a spritz. You use a lot more water a day than you think. You selfish California sun-heathens.
Here's how California will fine your water-wasting tochus if you dare flout their water edicts:
(1) If the violation occurs in a critically dry year immediately preceded by two or more consecutive below normal, dry, or critically dry years or during a period for which the Governor has issued a proclamation of a state of emergency under the California Emergency Services Act (Chapter 7 (commencing with Section 8550) of Division 1 of Title 2 of the Government Code) based on drought conditions, ten thousand dollars ($10,000) for each day in which the violation occurs.(2) For all violations other than those described in paragraph (1), one thousand dollars ($1,000) for each day in which the violation occurs.
Emphasis added for reasons which are self-explanatory.
Incidentally, as a former resident of California, I can tell you how droughts work in the silly state. They're normal. It's not "sunny California" because of frequent rains. But every few years, California has an El Nino, flooding the state's limited reservoirs to the point some dams must be opened to release the extra rainwater. Extra water which could've been used in a drought year. Uh huh.
To borrow leftist parlance, California droughts are man-made.
If California cared about saving water, they'd build more dams, create more reservoirs to store the water during an El Nino year to keep for the dry spells. Yet the environmental statists won't allow Californians to create more reservoirs. Thus the Nazi tactics on residents of the state. Rare snails and river shrimp have more rights than the people who pay ungodly taxes to the communistic hippies. Know your place, peasants. Don't you dare use more water than the state has deigned to give you.
