California has long been submerged in leftist psychosis, but this new gun law? It seals in the crazy. The state recently passed a slew of new restrictions on guns -- including one that officially declares "high capacity" magazines illegal as of July 1st. Not just illegal to buy but illegal to have in one's possession. More of the details on that legislative trash heap below...

Sweeping new gun laws passed last year by California voters and legislators require those with magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition to get rid of them by July 1.

In conservative, pro-gun Redding this week, Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko ... said his deputies won't be aggressively hunting for large capacity magazines starting next month. "We're essentially making law-abiding citizens into criminals with this new law."

This part is important because Sheriff Bosenko makes an excellent point here - this law does little to punish actual criminals. It instead forces regular, law abiding folk into a new identity of criminalhood. All for committing the crime of owning a thing they already legally acquired.

But it gets worse...

The law provides no state funds to compensate owners for their magazines, and there's no way to track whether gun owners give them up.

So if you ignore the law, you lose. If you follow the law, you also lose. In other words? You're screwed. But it's your job to figure it out. Courtesy of the Golden State. But California liberals don't want your guns. You're just paranoid.

None of this should be coming as a surprise. California has been eyeing guns while rubbing its grubby paws together for a while now (see California Can Now Officially Confiscate Your Guns. Even if No Law was Broken...). While conservatives fight to embrace freedoms elsewhere in the country, California digs in its heels and becomes even more blue. It may be too late for the sunniest state on the best coast, but let this be a warning to the rest of the nation. This is what "common sense" gun control looks like.
