High school athletes dream of going to State. They work hard to stay at the top of their game to reach the accolades and the opportunities that can present themselves. There was controversy this past week over girls missing those opportunities when they were defeated by girls who used to be boys, including those who raced as boys as recently as two years ago.

The controversy continues because after taking the spots from biological girls, the trans athletes no-showed the State Championships. According to the California Interscholastic Federation, they are disappointed... in the parents who were protesting on behalf of saving girls' sports.

The CIF is disappointed for two of our student-athletes and their families because due to the actions of others, they found it necessary to withdraw from the State Track and Field Championships out of concern for the student’s well being.

Riley Gaines, an activist on behalf of girls' sports, issued a statement on Twitter asking if the real reason the two (formally) make competitors didn't compete was that their conscious got the best of them. Probably not but a girl (who was born that way) can dream.

One of the no-showing athletes, Athena Ryan, is a high school track star who ran track as a boy until 2021. Controversy erupted when Adeline Johnson, a girl and has only ever been a girl, gave a thumbs down after finishing fourth and missing out on the state championship opportunity. It was believed the thumbs down was due to the unfair competitor, but according to a statement by the school, the gesture was taken out of context.

The second no-showing athlete is Lorelei Barrett, according to the New York Post.

Welcome to America in 2023. One side of the debate, the side that believes in biology, feels that because boys are born with certain biological advantages in strength and athletics, it is unfair for them to compete against girls. Effectively rob girls of opportunities like scholarships and being able to discover themselves as they learn, grow, and develop. Also, forcing young girls to change with classmates who have male body parts is weird and people who support forcing them to do so should feel disgusted with themselves because you're a gross person.

The other side of the argument -- the side that controls the White House, Hollywood, and 99.86% of the media. -- thinks you're a homophobic transphobe.

Controversy over mediocre male runners who compete as males after going through puberty as males, then decide to be girls and compete against girls, has been a cornerstone of that debate since 2018. In 2020, three female runners filed a lawsuit in Connecticut against allowing boys -- even though they say they're girls -- from competing in girls' sports.

Chelsea Mitchell, one of the plaintiffs, had her OpEd about the issue edited by USA Today because Mitchell referred to males as "male." USA Today found that offensive.
