California Pushes Bogus LGBT Study With Insane Conclusion
Another day, another excessively bogus "academic" study. More like "epidemic" study. An epidemic of false information and bias. We've oft discussed the efforts of the left to push an agenda by fabricating factoids (see Leftists Falsely Blame Traffic Fatalities on Climate Change… and DEBUNKED: New Liberal Study Says Guns Don’t Deter Crime. Why It’s False…). But this is just rich.
This new study wants us to believe 1/3 of Californian teens are queer. Of course, it's from California.
Researchers out of the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law and the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research analyzed data from the 2015-2016 version of the California Health Interview Survey, which collected data from 1,300 households.
Firstly, what kind of representation is that? Did they pull families from all California counties? Was it quantitative or qualitative research? How did they pick their sample? Methinks this study contains more holes than swiss cheese.
The study’s authors took these answers and analyzed them in context with what gender/sex adolescents chose in the survey. With this information, researchers identified two groups of gender-nonconforming youth: “highly gender-nonconforming (GNC)” and “androgynous.” Young women who thought people at school saw them as “mostly masculine” or “very masculine,” and young men who chose “mostly feminine” or “very feminine” were categorized as highly GNC. Young people who said they were “equally feminine and masculine” were categorized as androgynous. The remaining youth were categorized as gender conforming.
Mmmkay. Way to be as vague and ambiguous as a vegan psychic. There's so much wrong here. I'll attempt to list some of it in convenient lead bullet points:
- "Gender-nonconforming" is ill-defined
- Participants could be a tomboy or quiet male whose cohorts point out their masculine or feminine characteristics without bullying
- If participants are bullied or encouraged in their masculine/feminine traits (female sports, male artists) they may be more likely to say their peers perceive them as more masculine or feminine
- Being perceived as masculine or feminine doesn't make said participant gender nonconforming/transgender/gender queer or otherwise
So the biggest problem here is that people with gender dysphoria are potentially being lumped in with those who may be slightly less traditionally masculine or feminine. Big difference there.
Ultimately, the study’s authors found that 27 percent, or 796,000, of California’s youth, are GNC. Of the two sub-groups, 21 percent were classified as androgynous, and 6 percent as highly GNC.Unsurprisingly, the study found GNC youth were more likely to experience severe psychological distress compared to gender-conforming teens (17 percent compared to 7 percent, respectively).
Again, gender dysphoria is a mental health issue which requires psychiatric attention. It shouldn't be normalized on a societal level. It also doesn't affect as big of a chunk of a population as this study suggests. Yet here we are.
Leftists believe being "gender-nonconforming" isn't due to mental disorder. But there's a prevalence of mental disorders in those they want to classify as queer. Gender dysphoria -- the actual mental disorder -- is associated with depression and anxiety. Progressives want to contribute it to "bullying" and "societal disapproval."
Which brings us to the true motivation behind the study.
This finding highlights the need to increase access to affirming mental health care and other supports, as well as to educate parents, schools, and communities on the mental health needs of gender nonconforming youth. It also makes clear that we must focus on continuing to reduce known risk factors, such as bullying and bias, against gender nonconforming people.
Smells like an ulterior motive at hand. This study simply reaffirms the left's victimization narrative. Facts and statistical accuracy be damned.
It all sounds rather familiar...
