OPINION: Can We Finally Admit it? Trump is Betraying Us...
Today Trump signed the 2018 Omnibus bill, which amounts to 1.3 trillion dollars in government spending over the next seven months. Really, spelling out "1.3 trillion" is genius for those trying to minimize a number most people cannot comprehend. Here's how 1.3 trillion looks numerically:
$1,300,000,000,000.00
It's a million million dollars over seven months.
Yes, Obama also spent a fabulous crap ton of American tax dollars. I know. We weren't happy about it. And yes, Hillary Clinton would've spent trillions in her budget. Half of which would've funded the hand-stitching of her pantsuits. If not Huma's continued "services." She lost the election when Trump shot her off the broomstick in a night most of us look back on with pleasant feelings in our nether regions.
Obama and Hillary spending all our money is my point. Donald Trump campaigned on such witty slogans as "Make America Great Again" and "I'm going to drain the swamp." I guess what he really meant was "I'm frankly going to light this bitch up by burning all the tax dollars." Please, before you rush to the comment section to defend him, or blame Congress for being veritable sacks of walking herpes, don't.
Trump ran as an outsider candidate, who wasn't another politician speaking elitist gobbledegook like so many politicians before him. He ran as an "anti-establishment" candidate. He leveraged his "I'm an outsider" brand to knock out true politicians from the primaries. So spare me the fangirling admiration explaining Trump had no choice, or the signing of this bill is but another strategic round in underwater backgammon.
And today, after teasing he'd veto what we can only describe as a hemorrhoid growing on the anus that is our political system, he signed it. I don't care if signing Omnibus 2018 made him SAD! I don't care if he signed it because Congress passed it. I don't care if he signed it because his horoscope said he'd need to sign documents of 2,000 or more pages lest his stubby fingers vanish. He signed it. Period.
He betrayed us. Unequivocally.
Yes, the Republican-controlled Congress is also to blame for this disaster. Every Republican who voted for this abomination deserves to be raked with hot coals. Preferably booted from office. But we've always known Congress is full of snakes. It is the swamp Donald Trump promised to drain. Remember?
But he didn't drain the swamp. He gave the swamp creatures exactly what they wanted: more frivolous government spending to feed a bloated government, while not funding the wall. Another oft-touted campaign promise.
So can we finally admit it? Donald Trump betrayed us.
Oh sure, there have been winning moments for Trump. Let's go through some of them:
- AWESOME: Neil Gorsuch Drop Kicked Whiny College Liberals in 1988!
- President Donald Trump Signs Tax Reform into Law
- ICE Rounds Up 141 Illegals With Extensive Criminal Records in Texas
- and Top 5 Donald Trump Accomplishments and Moments in 2017
Trump doing good by Americans is why the betrayal of his Omnibus signing stings. We were promised there would be so much winning, we'd tire of all the winning. 2017 ended in glorious fireworks with the passage of tax reform. But now we have what looks to be even more government spending. Taking us back to the days of Obama. Which Hillary would've likely continued. Hence America shifted course, wiping her from the election with a cloth or something.
No, I'll never tire of that joke. Leave me be.
Trump betrayed us. I repeat the point because of all the lofty promises he made to his supporters during the campaign. Supporters who pledged allegiance to him. Supporters who took him at his word. What Donald Trump did today was slap his supporters clean across their smiling faces.
Today Trump became an insider politician, a swamp-dweller sitting in the White House. Just another establishment politician.
Can we finally admit it?
