The Second Amendment is mostly an American thing. It is so American, that it is enshrined in the Constitution that we have an inalienable right to defend ourselves. Canadians don’t have these sorts of human rights. It even seems as if it is a de facto crime if you stop someone who would have likely killed you. At least, that is what appears to be going on in this story.

According to the CBC:

“A store clerk who allegedly used a baseball bat to hit a man who attempted to rob his convenience store is now facing a charge of aggravated assault, Peterborough police say.

In a news release issued Tuesday, the Peterborough Police Service said officers were called to a convenience store in the King Street and Bethune Street area around 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 5.

Upon arrival, officers learned that a male clerk was helping a customer when a second man entered the store demanding money and brandishing a baseball bat, according to the release.

‘A struggle ensued and the clerk was struck with the bat before grabbing the bat away from the suspect,’ police said.”

This is why the argument that banning guns will somehow stop bad guys is so stupid. You don’t need a gun to have a deadly weapon. That is why the U.K. has a de facto stabbing epidemic like there is no tomorrow.

"’The suspect then fled the store. The clerk followed the suspect out of the store and struck him several times with the baseball bat on the sidewalk.’

Police said the man who allegedly attempted the robbery suffered head injuries and is in a Toronto hospital receiving treatment, while the clerk was treated at the scene by emergency medical services.

A warrant for arrest was issued for the 37-year-old man who allegedly attempted the robbery for assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, and robbery, police said.”

The robber planned to use a deadly weapon and rob innocent people just trying to make a living while producing a good for society. The robber does nothing good for society and who knows what his plan is. The man brought a deadly weapon to attempt to take things by force. Chances are that he could care less if someone's life was lost in the process. By the store clerk defending himself, he likely stopped the suspected thief from hurting or killing other people.

When he says "This is about the law" it is just all too similar to the phrase "I was just following orders."

What the police chief is trying to say is that the robber should have been able to rob more people. He should have been able to assault more people. At least, that is what it seems like he is saying.

This is what happens when you have an assault law and no right to self-defense. Pay attention to that.

Should criminals have the same rights as their victims? Well, at the very least, we know who caused all of this. And it was not the store clerk, I can tell you that much.
