City Council Meeting Ends In Chaos Over Chicago Residents No Longer Wanting To Be A "Sanctuary City"
There is strong evidence to support that a rising tide of illegal immigration causes wages and job prospects to decline dramatically. According to the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), black employment is more sensitive to an immigration influx than white employment.
An immigration boost of 10 percent caused the employment rate to fall just 0.7 percentage points for white men; while for black men, it fell 2.4 percentage points. There is an undeniable link between the resurgence of large-scale immigration and the employment and incarceration trends in the black population, according to the NBER.
In other words, immigration, especially illegal immigration, hurts black Americans the most. You cannot tout “no human is illegal” without causing harm to the black community. Subsequently, we can make the argument that open borders are actually one of the most racist things you can do.
Biden’s alien invasion continues to wreak havoc for black Americans.
Protesters shut down a Chicago City Council meeting on Tuesday during a debate over allowing residents to decide whether the city should remain a sanctuary for migrants.
Hundreds of concerned residents filled city hall to voice their frustrations and objections about some members' efforts to block a referendum that would allow residents to vote on whether to remain a sanctuary city, according to Fox News.
Residents, mostly black Americans, flooded the gallery with some waving signs saying: “The RENT is too damn HIGH!” and “BRING CHICAGO HOME.”
Spending resources on migrants is the last thing you should do if you want to create a fairer economy and lift up urban communities.
Residents also expressed their frustrations in regard to a $29.4 million contract that was signed in Sept. with a private security firm to move newly arrived migrants to massive winterized camps with tents.
Chicago has seen an influx of about 20,000 migrants recently and has already spent at least $250 million on the issue.
When you encourage migrants to come with free housing and welfare, the price is felt the most by Americans whose communities could make better use of those funds.
"We're spending a lot of money every single day," said 9th Ward Alderman Anthony Beale. "I think up to $40 million a month, ladies and gentlemen."
Alderman Anthony Napolitano asked, "Do you, as a resident of the City of Chicago, believe that we should remain a sanctuary city?"
"No! [obviously],” many residents shouted in response. The crowd also let out a boo.
Rules Committee Chairwoman Michelle Harris ordered the sergeant-at-arms to clear the room after the chaos continued.
The meeting was subsequently suspended until Nov. 16.
As of September, there were about 20 active migrant shelters in Chicago, according to the Daily Mail.
There is no doubt that this level of mass immigration subsequently comes at a significant cost to black Americans.
“In all my years, I haven't seen anything like this,” said 15th Ward Alderman Raymond Lopez. “But I've also never seen such a concerted effort to ignore the will of the people.”
In Sept., a group of black homeowners protested outside City Hall, calling on city officials to redirect funding spent on migrants to their neighborhoods.
Which they should.
“The South Side has been under-resourced, under-funded for years, for decades,” community organizer Jessica Jackson said at that time, according to the Daily Mail. “We have schools that need to be reopened. For them to be sympathetic to their needs, saying it's a humanitarian issue crisis when Black people have had a humanitarian crisis for housing, employment, and everything else. 'How do we get pushed to the back?”
Democrats continue to relentlessly push policies that’ll make black Americans poorer as they incentivize more migrants to enter the floodgates.
A paper published by the NBER estimated in 2006 that the influx in immigration between 1980 and 2000 “reduced the wage of Black high school dropouts by 8.3 percent, reduced the employment rate by 7.4 percentage points, and increased the incarceration rate by 1.7 percentage points.”
Throughout America’s economic history, there is no denying that every time immigration levels have risen significantly, so does inequality. If we want to achieve the economic equality that progressives pretend to be so concerned with, then we can not ignore immigration’s contribution to racial disparity.
