In grade school, a common, simple assignment is to draw your family tree. A task made simpler if mommy and daddy are closely related. That is unless, as the child of that union, you even made it to grade school.

Turns out siblings, cousins, and other closely related relatives aren't supposed to join hands and start a sexual love train. Not just because it makes everyone's skin crawl, but because children of such unions die at higher rates. Guess which peaceful religion is struggling with this inbreeding problem:

One in five child deaths in an east London borough have occurred because the mother and father are related, a report has found.

Redbridge Council found deaths of children from parents who were known consanguineous couples – meaning second cousins or more closely related – accounted for 19 per cent of 124 cases reviewed in the borough between 2008 and 2016.

“Chromosomal, genetic and congenital abnormalities”, which are known to occur in offspring of interfamily relationships due to a heightened risk of certain genetic disorders, were identified as the causes of the deaths in a report by the borough's Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP).

Nine per cent of the children who died were from families with Pakistani origins – a group that had the highest rates of consanguineous parents, at 50 per cent, according to the report.

Half of child deaths reviewed were among children of Asian ethnicities, with the highest numbers of deaths (18 per cent) within this category among children of Pakistani ethnicity.

In the UK, "Asian" is how the press describes people from the Middle East. We learned that little trivia factoid during the London Bridge terror attack.

Pakistani youngins (and "Asian" children) mostly hail from Islam. They're dying at a higher rate because they're Muhammad hailing immigrants believe intimacy with their cousin is totes fine. Especially when their pet goat is unavailable. Islam adherents also think an old man (who might wear Depends), wedding a young girl is worthy of celebration. It's politically incorrect to say, but many in the Muslim community are engaging in backward, barbaric practices. Like marrying their cousins. Or marrying children. But genetics don't care about trigger warnings. Child mortality doesn't care about Islamophobia. Much the same way Ahmed doesn't care that his bride is his second cousin. I just threw up a little.

Yet the press and media will try sweeping these findings under a suicide vest. If these same findings came out about the Southern Baptist community? Front page news. Talking heads would decry how barbaric the Christians were for inbreeding. There would be a Dateline special. Katie Couric might make a "documentary."

But once again, sick Islam gets a pass.
