Watch: India finally releases Chinese spy pigeon who did nothing wrong, after holding the "prisoner" for eight months
There is a satirical conspiracy theory that suggests birds are not real and are actually drones used by the government to spy on citizens. But India’s government may have taken that conspiracy theory, which is a joke that no one believes, very seriously. It appears they have interrogated and detained an innocent pigeon whom they wrongfully suspected of espionage for eight months.
Fortunately, the bird has finally been cleared of all wrongdoing and has been released back to the sky after it was confirmed he was not planning a coo.
But this does not sit well with me. First of all, why would they not just euthanize the bird if that’s what they thought? Secondly, why did it take this long to release the innocent prisoner? Did it really take eight months to confirm he was no longer a flight risk?
The lifespan of a pigeon is six years. This bird lost 15 percent of its life locked up for a crime he never committed. That's like 10 pigeon years. Where is the outrage? Where is the compensation? I am not okay with this.
“Indian police have cleared a suspected Chinese spy pigeon and released it into the wild after eight months in detention, according to reports in the Press Trust of India.
The pigeon’s ordeal began in May when it was captured near a port in Mumbai with two rings tied to its legs, carrying a message that was said to look like it was in Chinese, local media said. Police suspected it was involved in espionage and took it in, later sending it to Mumbai’s Bai Sakarbai Dinshaw Petit hospital for animals.
Eventually, it was revealed that the pigeon was an open-water racing bird from Taiwan that had escaped and made its way to India. With police permission, the bird was transferred to the Bombay Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, whose doctors set it free on Tuesday.”
This is a common occurrence with the Indian government. They often detain innocent pigeons and have wrongfully arrested several birds over the years. But who even does that? Don’t they have laws against cruel and unusual punishment?
Let's hope this is the last time the Indian government locks up an innocnent bird.
