Chris Christie Flips on Gun Control. The Heartbreaking Story That Converted Him...
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has straddled the fence on gun control. A re-inforced, double-walled, stainless steel fence. Probably leaning more left than right. In 2009, he said that he wanted to make sure there wasn’t an ‘abundance of guns out there’. Christie knows all about abundance. Okay, that was the last one, I promise.
Well, he quickly changed his tone when faced with the story of a woman who was murdered because she couldn’t get a gun permit in time. Let me give you the short end of the story.
Carol Bowne of Berlin Township had a crazy ex-boyfriend. She feared for her safety, filing a restraining order, as well as installing security cameras and an alarm system to her home. As per New Jersey law, she also began the months-long process of obtaining a handgun. During that waiting period, she was stabbed to death by her crazy ex boyfriend.
It's a tragic story, one that really breaks my heart. One that showcases two glaring truths about guns.
1.) Access to guns are more important in helping women than men. The only way a woman can equalize the playing field with a larger, stronger man, is a gun. Taking the guns out of the hands of male aggressors helps zero, as an unarmed man can still generally do whatever he wants to a weaker woman. That woman's only chance at survival against a man seeking to do her harm, is having a gun. Would a gun have saved Carol Browne's life? Not necessarily. But it's the only thing that would have given her a fighting chance. Period.
2.) This is why nobody in the government, media, or hell, even your neighborhood watch should be able to dictate how many guns you can buy and own, at any time. I was asked this question on Russia Today a while ago (seen in the video below). "Why would you need to buy more than one gun in a day?" Read this story. If you still ask "why?" then go screw yourself.
Back to Christie. He said that it was a shame New Jersey ‘is not yet a dictatorship’, so that he could scrap the state’s tough gun laws. That’s one heck of a change from his previous statements in 2009, where he said that he supported aggressive enforcement of the state’s gun laws. Of course, that was while juggling the idea of making sure the police were safe on the streets... Because it seems that Christie believes gun control actually stops criminals from owning guns. Fat-head. Okay, that's the last one.
So, I'm glad to hear about his change of heart... but that's a kind of stupidity that just doesn't disappear overnight. I'm not sold on him yet.
But... he's better than Bush? Maybe?
