There have been a lot of Facebook posts about collecting ammo and buying new guns, but they're usually from the "I F***ing Love Guns and Ammo Because America" Facebook page. They aren't usually posted on the official page of a Sheriff's office...let alone a New York Sheriff.

It truly is a strange time to be alive...

“I think it’s important to remind everybody with the way things are, you’ve got people coming in with long rifles just slaughtering people,” Van Blarcum said by phone, referring specifically to Wednesday’s shooting in San Bernardino.

He said in instances like the recent mass shootings, if people aren’t armed, they are “useless.”

A couple things here.

1. New York isn't exactly a safe space for the NRA. They have some of the strictest gun laws in the country next to California (read more about their strict gun control laws and how they've failed miserably here). New York is where they passed the "Safe ACT" right after the Newtown shootings, when Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo thought he was running for President. So again, a long and storied history of abusing the Second Amendment in this state. It seems that some of them have had enough.

2. The sheriff is a DEMOCRAT. Yes, a Democrat sheriff off Ulster county. Hardly a card-carrying member of the tea-partying, pro-gun lobby. Again, the man advising the citizens of New York to arm themselves... is a democrat.

So that is where we are now. A democrat in a state that is slightly less blue than California is officially calling on citizens to arm themselves, because it's the only way to ensure protection of their family and loved ones.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, but still, wow. I strained my neck peering over to find pigs flying from my posterior. No word yet on hell freezing over.
