The media concept of "fact" "checking" has always been bullplop. In the olden days, fact-checking was just called "reporting." Now, corporate journalismers will nitpick over rhetoric and use whatever the most recent email they got from a Democrat strategist as their "source" for claiming something is false. Only if a Republican says it, though. If a Democrat says it, then it's "well, what they meant to say was..."

My all-time favorite was Paul Ryan's speech at the 2012 RNC convention. He had a throwaway line about how his iPod ('meber those?) had everything from A-Z: AC/DC to Zeppelin. He got "fact" "checked" because the band is really named Led Zeppelin.

Exhibit Q is CNN "fact" "checking" JD Vance over an obvious joke about why the DNC chose Chicago for their convention.

“My little theory about why they decided to have the convention in Chicago: Tim Walz has been going around saying that he served in war and maybe they did it in Chicago so he could accurately say he visited a combat zone.”

I'm not sure if you are aware, but besides having overrated pizza, Chicago is most known for how violent it is:

JD Vance still wasn't being literal. It was a zinger. He was using the literary device known as "snark" to take a dig at Walz's stolen valor. Only someone with half a brain would think Vance was calling Chicago a literal warzone or making a profound political statement.

Unfortunately, you don't even need half a brain to work at CNN. JD Vance's pants are on fire because *checks notes* Chicago was chosen a year before Walz joined the ticket.

They didn't even go with the BS about crime being down, ignoring a key component of that is cities no longer report crime. JD Vance's JOKE is false because "ackshually, the Democrats chose Chicago a year ago."

This is CNN.
