CNN Gives Sympathy Treatment to New Mexico Terrorists
Being sympathetic to the poor, because they're poor, is one thing. Extending the poverty sympathy to people who're probably terrorists training children to be killers, is ballsy. Never to shy away from doling out piles of feels to people who deserve none of it, CNN wrote a rambling feel piece in honor of the New Mexico terrorists. Because they were poor and living off the grid. So they were, like, struggling and stuff. We must understand their plight. Et cetera, et cetera, virtue signaling, virtue signaling, blah blah blah.
From CNN's piece "In New Mexico, where life off the grid is common, compound suspects struggled":
Individuals from society's periphery have long sought refuge in this part of the state, where cheap land far from the nearest power line or shopping center is easy to find. The region's history of welcoming outsiders has contributed to cross-cultural exchanges and a tolerant attitude that locals consider points of pride. Many are quick to distance the state's countercultural vibe from the compound and its inhabitants, who are accused of training the children to commit mass shootings. But they also fear that the publicity around a case infused with allegations of terrorism, child abuse and faith healing might contribute to a rise in racism and Islamophobia.
I bolded that last little diddy. It's what we'd call the money quote. Yes, compound residents holding children and training them to kill other children would raise a few eyebrows. How lovely of the community at large to put priority on how outsiders will view a compound which held children with the purpose of terrorist training. "Might contribute to a rise in racism and Islamophobia."
Firstly, Islamophobia is a logical phobia. Read Dear PC Leftists: Actually, 'Islamophobia' is an Entirely Logical Phobia. Being afraid of people who'd seek our demise simply because we don't agree with their worldview seems valid. Call me a traditionalist bigot.
Racism is a bit of a stretch, though. As I understand it, the terrorists were training kids to kill the infidels. Not to kill the white honkies.
Unless, of course, CNN is trying to lump Islam in with race. As leftists are wont to do.
Lest you think the passage above is a one-off, no:
A history of counterculture movements
The region's countercultural history predates the arrival of European-Americans. In precolonial times, the Taos region was on the northeastern edge of the Pueblo world, which attracted "malcontents from other Pueblo centers who reinvented themselves in Taos through the rejection of certain cultural practices," said Fowles, chairman of Barnard College's Department of Anthropology.
See, people who live off the grid are just countercultural. Ergo we must extend this understanding of different beliefs to the New Mexico terrorists who were allegedly training children for the glory of Allah. To deny the suspects this basic human right is to admit to being a close-minded sock puppet.
Terrorists shouldn't get sympathy for being poor any more than they should be extra demonized for being rich. People should be judged for their actions, not on their socioeconomic living conditions. Villains are still villains whether they live it up in a mansion with an indoor pool, or if they're swamp creatures bathing in bogs.
