CNN Threatens to "Dox" Anonymous Trump/WWE GIF Creator. Americans' Backlash Begins...
It's been an extended holiday weekend for most of you. You may have missed CNN going bananas over an anti-CNN GIF (see Trump Tweets Hilarious Video. CNN Cries "Help, We're Under Attack!"). How bananas? Tracking down the anonymous creator of the gif, and threatening to dox him.
After posting his apology, “HanA**holeSolo” called CNN’s KFile and confirmed his identity. In the interview, “HanA**holeSolo” sounded nervous about his identity being revealed and asked to not be named out of fear for his personal safety and for the public embarrassment it would bring to him and his family.CNN is not publishing “HanA**holeSolo’s” name because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again. In addition, he said his statement could serve as an example to others not to do the same.
CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change.
FYI "doxing" means to "reveal the identity of an anonymous person on the internet for malicious purposes." I Googled it for you.
FINALLY our long national nightmare is over! The press has tracked down some guy who calls himself "HanAssholeSolo" on Reddit. A guy who makes gifs. Just think, rather than reporting actual news, or conducting journalism which might also lead to the reporting of actual news, CNN invested time and resources into the tracking down of a gif maker. Then CNN wonders why everyone hates them.
Oh, and as I was writing this story, apparently this happened...
But not to worry, the gif-maker doesn't feel threatened at all by CNN. So it was totes fine for CNN to threaten to reveal his identity if he didn't behave.
The "reporter" clarified...
I see. The guy who you threatened to dox, who may be a kid living in mommy's basement, called you to tell you all is fine, keep calm and carry on lighting your own news industry ablaze with y0ur own shit-posting.
Except...
Oops.
Methinks it's going to be a long day for Andrew Kaczynski. The backlash is real.
And CNN too, because they just opened the Pandora's Box that is Redditors using Adobe's creative suite...
Side note, yes, we've seen "HanAssholeSolo's" other posts. The guy sounds like a real racist, antisemitic douchecanoe. Or, like we said, a kid living in mommy's basement who thinks he's being funny. If you think it's fine for CNN, a still enormous news organization (for now) to target an individual over a gif, if that individual has posted other things you find displeasing? Look in the mirror. Slap yourself. Repeat with a hair dryer.
A corporate media outlet THREATENED HIM over a wrestling graphic they didn't like, because a president they don't like tweeted it. The end. This is CNN. Whiny babies with tactics similar to brown-suited thugs who you should dare not cross, lest they reveal who you are for all to see (and punish) with your own mob tactics. Over a gif.
This, again, is all why even people who don't care for Donald Trump and think he needs his phone taken away, don't feel bad for the media in the slightest.
