They're investigating Conor McGregor for "online hate speech" over tweets criticizing Irish govt, migrant stabbing
UFC fighter Conor McGregor spoke out about his government and an alleged migrant stabbing. He is now under investigation for "online hate speech." This is where we say "Pay Attention, America."
You may have read on X about how Ireland wants new hate crime laws. Conor is being investigated under the old hate crime laws. The new laws the Irish government wants are utter insanity.
McGregor is being investigated under basic hate crime laws. The kind that says you can't give anyone anxiety. The kind where the UK charges more people than they do in Russia. The kind where there is a list of people you are told you are not allowed to talk about, which in this instance means an Algerian migrant who stabbed people. Allegedly.
Fox News reports of the initial knife attack: "5-year-old girl was receiving emergency medical treatment in a hospital. A woman and two other children were also injured. A 6-year-old girl sustained less serious injuries, and a boy was discharged from a hospital, officials said."
There have been firey but mostly peaceful protests resulting from the stabbing, and McGregor has been using his platform on X to speak out on behalf of the protesters.
Per The Times: "McGregor’s posts are being assessed by the gardai, the Irish police, as part of an inquiry into the dissemination of online hate speech. The inquiry is being led by Justin Kelly, an assistant garda commissioner."
Three tweets are being isolated. One is Conor tweeting that Ireland is at war.
Another has him mocking a reporter being told to leave the site of the stabbing, adding, "We are not losing any more of our woman and children to sick and twisted people who should not even be in Ireland in the first place."
In the last example, McGregor denounces the rioting and the looting. But he did show reposting someone else's artwork. "If they do not act soon with their plan of action to ensure Ireland’s safety, I will."
McGregor also referenced two other migrant killings. Ashling Murphy, murdered by a man "who came to Ireland to be jobless on welfare for a decade." And Aidan Moffitt and Michael Snee, two men who were decapitated in a killing that was believed to be in the name of Allah. Turns out, there is a pattern that led to last week's firey but mostly peaceful protests.
Open borders are fine. A former UFC Champion speaking out about is not. And the ideology that allows it in Ireland is shared by the people working for the Joe Biden White House now. The difference is that we have free speech and a First Amendment that prevents them from investigating us. For now.
Pay attention, America.
