Curt Schilling Fires Back on ESPN's Leftist Hypocrisy.
Curt Schilling has a habit of pissing off leftists with his Facebook posts. This isn't news. What did make the news however, was that his mere sharing of a meme about transgender politics was enough to get him fired from ESPN.
Did he share it on ESPN? No.
Do people who share leftist politics on ESPN get fired for it? Schilling has a few words about that...
“It was apparent to me early on that if you wanted to go off topic as a sports person you had to go off topic left, or you were going to get in trouble,” Schilling said during a one-hour guest appearance on SiriusXM Satellite Radio’s “Breitbart News Patriot Forum” that is scheduled to air at 8 a.m. Thursday.“Some of the most racist things I’ve ever heard have come out of people that are on the air at ESPN. They’re some of the biggest racists in sports commentating.”
Asked to clarify his remarks after the show, which was recorded before a live audience at SiriusXM headquarters in Manhattan, Schilling said, “The memo that was sent out more than once was about they wanted on air-talent to focus on sports. To me that means focus on sports unless you want to talk about something that is part of the liberal agenda.
“You listen to Stephen A. Smith, and Stephen A. Smith was the guy who said that Robert Griffin didn’t play quarterback for the Redskins because he’s black. No, Robert Griffin didn’t play quarterback for the Redskins because he [stunk].
“. . . Tony Kornheiser compared the Tea Party to ISIS. I don’t know any planet where those are sports topics. But I don’t care. It’s OK. I think those conversations need to happen. But as soon as you go to the flip side, the right side, there are repercussions for not talking about sports.”
Now, understand that this is NOT a First Amendment issue. Just like the Duck Dynasty situation was NOT a First Amendment issue. Curt Schilling himself understands that this is NOT a First Amendment issue. So don't undercut yourself by claiming that it is. Networks and businesses can and should have the right to fire whomever they want. Okay? Okay.
So what is the issue? As Curt layed out, it's the remarkable inconsistency of ESPN. Their selective process in determining which opinions to punish revolves around the daily-changing standards of political correctness. And I truly do main daily-changing.
If you could rewind the clock a mere three years, and tell yourself that using the words "male" and "female" would be considered discriminatory today, you'd have slapped your future self for creating a straw man. Yet here we are. Look behind you. See that dot? Waaaaaay off in the distance? That's a reasoned argument. It's since long gone.
Speaking of reasoned arguments. I went more in depth with him about it recently on the show. The interview is worth a listen...
