Dan Crenshaw: The Left is Using COVID-19 to Restructure America...
A buddy of mine owns two restaurants on Long Island and was in the process of opening a third when the shutdown started. To say he's vocally at the end of his rope is an understatement. My normally apolitical friend has even noticed that if you live in a red state, you are allowed to work and support your family, but if you live in a blue state, you have to wait for Daddy Government to grant you permission. It seems silly we're polarized over whether or not people should be allowed to go back to work. Yet here we are. Rep. Dan Crenshaw (blah blah blah, red flag laws) takes a look at why that is in an OpEd for the Wall Street Journal.
You need to read the whole thing to get the full nutritional value. But we're all carnivores, so here's a taste of the red meat.
It isn't obvious that such a debate should be partisan, yet it is. Why? One popular explanation is that all roads lead to President Trump. Whatever he says, the left will say the opposite.
Liberals are also more comfortable with a government that regulates more behavior...the far left is treating the lockdowns and the consequent economic devastation as an opportunity to “restructure" America into a socialist utopia. So they're in no rush.
The liberal approach betrays a lack of imagination. Just because you dislike Mr. Trump doesn't mean he must be wrong here. Just because you can work remotely doesn't mean others can, too. Just because you don't want to confront risk doesn't mean others should be prevented from doing so. Just because you have a single-dimensional view of “caring" doesn't mean we can afford to ignore the consequences of economic devastation.
So because voters in New York City are too low-information to realize they constantly vote against their best interests and are easily manipulated by the media, social issues, and Trump tweets, the rest of us in New York get to watch as other states are going back to work, going back to the gym, and living their best lives. You have to wonder what would happen if President Trump tried reverse psychology. If he tweeted out "New York should stay shut down forever because of what a loser Andrew Cuomo is," the same snitch-ass little bitches attacking anyone who thinks it's time to reopen the country would suddenly demand that New York reopen. Same goes for California, Washington, and any other state where elections are decided by the people living on top of each other in cities.
If only Texas weren't so ugly, it would be a great state to move to. If only South Dakota didn't get so cold, because same.
