Darius Rucker blasts lack of respect shown our National Anthem at the Super Bowl
Unless you are a diehard Kansas City Chiefs fan, the highlight of Super Bowl LVII was Chris Stapleton's incredible rendition of our country's National Anthem. If there was ever a reason to scream "hell yeah, brother" after hearing the Star-Spangled Banner, it was Stapleton on Sunday. His peers in the country music community took to Twitter to praise his performance. Though one, Darius Rucker, had a critique.
Not of Stapleton. Of all the grown-ass men in attendance who couldn't be bothered to remove their hats: "I just saw grown men keep their hats in during the National Anthem and that really sucked."

A debate broke out in his mentions, natch. Which I don't think was Rucker's intention. It's not like Don Lemon being snippy over who Elon Musk was enjoying charcuterie with. Darius used Twitter as it's meant to be used. "This is my IRL thought right now, send tweet." Then he opened a beer and triple-checked his Super Bowl poll numbers like a normie.
He's still right. You need to do two things when the National Anthem is being played. Remove your hat, which even that I think is just for dudes. And either sing along or stand in silence. It's not difficult to do.
If this were my dad, he'd even have a problem with people applauding during the song. In the olden days, somewhere in-between a bygone era and low-information zoomers deciding that being respectful was literate hate speech, people would hold their applause until before "...and the home of the brave."
Darius Rucker is right about this. Take your damn hat off.
Also, apropos of nothing, Hootie and the Blowfish's "Cracked Rear View" still slaps. Don't act like if "Hold My Hand" comes on at the bar you aren't singing along. Though with your hat on and turned backward, just like in college.
