Dave Chappelle's alma mater Duke Ellington School of the Arts is naming a building after him. This effectively puts an end to a controversy that started last November.

We began with Chappelle's last Netflix special, The Closer. Activists and corporate media were punching down on the comedian, accusing the comedian of being "transphobic" over jokes he made. Two students from Duke Ellington were angry Chappelle was coming to the school for a fundraiser where the school was going to name the theatre after him. The two angry students wouldn't calm down, and instead of telling them to settle down, the school thought it was easier to cancel the fundraiser.

So, Chappelle laid down a challenge. Since the event was a fundraiser, he challenge his supporters and his haters to donate to the school. "If by April, those against the 'Chappelle' theater exceed the donations of those who are neutral or in favor of the theatre being named 'Chappelle,' I will gladly step aside. If not, I will happily attend the naming ceremony. And if you don't care enough to donate, please, SHUT THE F*CK UP FOREVER!"

Turns out, Chappelle haters are cheap losers and have no conviction. TMZ is reporting his supporters raised the most money. The building will be called the Dave Chappelle Theatre. The unveiling and dedication ceremony is today, June 20.

No word on if those two students are still enrolled in the school or if they plan to attend. They might be too busy crying on Twitter to make it.

What Chappelle did was prove the ultimate point about "cancel" culture: The people looking to have you destroyed and force you to bend the knee don't support your work, your art, or your career. Your fans do. Pandering to your haters only encourages haters.
