After receiving harsh criticism for his JOKES (not "remarks," as Deadline claims) about transgender and LGBTQ+ communities in his previous Netflix special The Closer, Dave Chappelle again decided he didn't give a f*ck and had fresh new triggering material in his latest Netflix special, The Dreamer. It wasn't just trans people, this time. The handicapped got it too.

I have not had an opportunity to watch myself. I just went through a thing where I canceled a bunch of subscriptions I don't use anymore. When the last season of Cobra Kai drops, I'll catch up on Chappelle and Ricky Gervais in between subscribing and unsubscribing again. Both comedians seem to be doing fine without me.

Dave told a story about how his good friend Norm MacDonald invited him to meet Jim Carrey on the set of Man in the Moon, a biopic about another legendary comedian, Andy Kaufman. Chappelle was a huge fan of Carrey's. The problem is when he was on set, Carey was so deep into the character he pretended to be Kaufman the entire time. When Dave would say "Jim," everyone would snap at him and say, "no, he's Andy," leaving a confusing Dave Chappelle forced to engage in the delusion.

Don't get too upset, trans community. Chappelle pledged to not make any more trans jokes. The rub is he loves punching down, so he found a group that isn't as organized as the gays. Handicapped people.

Of course, none of these are jokes ABOUT the handicapped or ABOUT trans people. They are jokes about what he's told he is not allowed to tell jokes about. It's what makes the artistry and the craftsmanship so brilliant. However, a misunderstanding of how humor works has caused a riff between Dave and trans people. The comedian has been working on a new play to help mend fences.

“You know how I’ve been repairing it? I wrote a play. I did. Cause I know that gays love plays. It’s a very sad play, but it’s moving. It’s about a Black transgender woman whose pronoun is, sadly, n****. It’s a tear-jerker. At the end of the play, she dies of loneliness cause white liberals don’t know how to speak to her."

It's Chappelle's world. The white liberals creating content they call "news" articles just live in it.
