Dave Chappelle performed anyway on Wednesday night, as he was always going to do. If you're wondering what the point of the controversy was, you're not alone. Though, I'm sure Dave Chappelle is already over it and onto the next one.

If you missed this morning's story, Chappelle was supposed to perform at First Avenue in Minneapolis, AKA, Prince's club. The show was canceled hours before over a mix of threats from a radical leftist (aka Democratic Party) militant group and a petition that had all of 150 signatures on it. First Avenue issued a statement saying "We believe in freedom of expression and diverse voices, but..." and I stopped reading it.

So, Chappelle performed at the Variety Theater, where he laughed off the controversy like he was always going to do. No cellphones were allowed. But Chappelle was said to have called his critics a "small group of transgender lunatics" and slammed First Avenue for not having more courage. "I can see a transgender hit squad from a mile off."

Early in the set, Chappelle said he had heard children of some First Avenue staffers had been threatened. If that was the case, the venue should have issued a statement saying, "Due to some left-wing extremists threatening our staff, we asked Dave Chappelle to please move his show to a venue better equipped to handle the security." Instead, they validated the 150 people who signed a petition--many of whom I doubt were from the community--and validated people like this:

So, the point of the drama was... what? The venue looks like assholes who caved to terrorists. They lost out on the additional revenue a Chappelle performance at a club made popular by PRINCE would have brought in. And Chappelle performed anyway.
