Barstool's Dave Portnoy makes surprising pick in the GOP primary: 'I'm a huge fan'
Barstool Sports president Dave Portnoy can't stand politics. People are surprised to hear that, what with the regular appearances on Fox News and his mutual admiration society with Tucker Carlson. But he hates politics almost as much as he does Business Insider. This is why it was surprising to many for him to use his massive platform to heap praise on GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley.
It was after her appearance on Fox News discussing the Hamas terror attacks against Israel.
"Every time Nikki Haley speaks I become more and more impressed with her. I am a huge fan of hers, and she is 100% dead on here."
Haley, the former Ambassador to the UN, was telling Sean Hannity: "It happened all the time at the U.N. When they start that ground game, when Israel starts to move in to eliminate Hamas further, you’re gonna have all these other countries, and you’re gonna have Americans say ‘You need to show restraint. You need to be able to pull back.’ No. They need to eliminate Hamas.”
She added, “We are supporting Israel now because they’ve been hit. But the more important part is we have to support them when they hit back as well."
Her comments are accurate to the point it's almost a parody of the media. As I'm sure many of you reading this are aware, this is not the first time there has been a terror attack has been launched against Israel. And each time, before Israel has a chance to respond, the refrain from the media is for both sides "to show restraint."
Sadly, there is now a Hamas-caucus in the Democrat conference echoing the same. Plus people working in the Biden Administration.
It will be interesting to see how, if at all, Portnoy's stamp of approval affects the GOP primary. The current power rankings are:
- Donald Trump
- Ron DeSantis
- Nikki Haley
However, if (and that's a YUGE "IF") anyone is going to upset Trump in Iowa, Haley has a clearer path to upset him in the primary. Yeah, I know. As much as we want to pretend otherwise and wish they would go away, the establishment still votes in GOP primaries. And a lot -- A LOT -- of them side with her on foreign policy.
Say she upsets Iowa, she's also the former Governor of South Carolina. That leaves New Hampshire in the middle, with its notorious independent streak in an open primary. Would Stoolies rally around Haley?
I'm also wondering when Portnoy says the more he hears from Nikki the more he becomes a fan, on what issues? This is the same Portnoy who had said overturning Roe v Wade is what drives voters away from Republicans and into Joe Biden. Yet Haley will be the first to remind you how extreme Democrats are when it comes to their pro-abortion agenda:
Could we see Portnoy x Haley pizza reviews in Des Moines, Nashua, and Charleston? Or, more importantly, can Portnoy facilitate a debate between Haley and his buddy Tucker Carlson?
I have no strong feelings for or against Haley. What I WOULD like to see is a serious, 1-on-1 debate between the two sides on the right when it comes to foreign policy and national security.
