Leftists and sane people's horns are locked in battle over the right to bear arms. The left believes your average citizen shouldn't be allowed to pack heat, because reasons. People who aren't lacking in the cranial region, on the other hand, are cool with self-defense. Plus, there's the whole matter of it being a constitutional right.

Well, the pro-Second Amendment side just scored a big concealed carry victory in D.C.

The right to self-defense scored an important victory on Tuesday when the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit struck down Washington D.C’s unconstitutional restrictions on issuing concealed carry permits.

“The Second Amendment protects the fundamental, individual right of Americans to not only keep arms, but also to bear arms. D.C. residents have suffered under a near total ban on their right to carry a firearm for self-defense,” said Chris W. Cox, executive director, National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action. “Today’s ruling is an important step toward protecting the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens.” 

The decision overturns D.C.’s requirement that citizens prove they have a “good reason” to obtain a concealed carry permit.  For the overwhelming majority of permit applicants, this results in a de facto prohibition on their right to carry a firearm for self-defense.

Kudos to the court for recognizing the validity of Amendment: Part Deux. It's certainly not a hard job, reading "shall not be infringed" and saying "m'kay." Nevertheless, it's nice to see a court put their personal opinions aside and interpret the law as it's written.

Still a skeptic on the boomsticks? Need an example of how the Second Amendment comes in handy? Fills Perp Full Of Lead…). In fact, there are often multiple good-guy-with-a-gun stories each week. A surprising amount of them in pizza shops.

The point is the right to bear arms works. Very well (read AWESOME: Three Burglars Break Into House. Get DROPPED by Homeowner’s Son with AR-15…). For some people, that six-gun in their hand is the only thing keeping them in the realm of the living, and not in a pine box.

This is one of many concealed carry victories for the pro-blaster side, and it won't be the last. The left can bombard the airwaves with anti-gun propaganda all they want. As long as the second amendment is in place and there are people who enjoy not being dead, leftists are going to have a tough time jacking our guns.
