Demi Lovoto Attacks "Body Shaming" Taylor Swift...by Body Shaming Her?!
Did you hear about Demi Lovato having beef with Taylor Swift? Probably not, since most of the LwC audience isn't fifteen. File this story under "so stupid it's funny," because this is seen as an actual issue in 2016. Lovoto attacked Swift and her "squad" for having unrealistic bodies, and how they set a bad example for young girls. Lovoto is in the left picture. With the bewb outfit, by the way.
That's right. Demi Lovato essentially accused Taylor Swift of body shaming...by body shaming her. Sometime you just can't make this stuff up.
Demi Lovato’s not holding back! The Disney Channel alum took indirect aim at Taylor Swift in her new cover story for Glamour’s November issue. When questioned about her past insults to Swift’s charitable endeavors, the “Confident” singer got slightly vague, while still making her point clear.“I think in certain situations, certain people could be doing more if they’re going to claim that as part of their brand. To be honest, and this will probably get me in trouble, I don’t see anybody in any sort of squad that has a normal body,” Lovato said, referencing Swift’s buzzed about pals, which includes supermodels Cara Delevingne, Karlie Kloss, Martha Hunt, and more. “It’s kind of this false image of what people should look like. And what they should be like, and it’s not real…. It’s not realistic.”
Firstly, I love how "Confident" singer Lovoto uses high school tactics to describe Swift. "Certain situations, certain people could be doing certain things." I imagine her saying it like she's Gretchen, one of the Mean Girls. Yes, we even have a gif.
Secondly, don't feel bad if you haven't seen Mean Girls. It's probably because you have a life or something. Or you're a dude. Similarly, don't get triggered if you have seen Mean Girls, I'm not insinuating you don't have a life. Or that you're not a dude. You're just up on pop culture. From years ago. I applaud you.
And please don't get us wrong. None of us here think body shaming is a real thing (see Colorado College Encourages Good Health. Students Protest ‘BODY SHAMING!!!’ and HILARIOUS! South Park DESTROYS Body Shaming and Liberal ‘Safe Spaces’…).
But when a self-professed feminist attacks someone and their friends for being too skinny, and how the skinny girl should feel poorly about being skinny?
We can all see the humor in that. Seriously, what should Taylor Swift do to be more true to "her brand"? Eat more carbs? Make sure she's always hanging out with a fatty? Invite Demi to be a part of the "squad"?
Also, when did "squad" become a thing? Is that like Gretchen's "fetch"? Gawd, you guys. Someone tell me where my basket of Craps I Give is, I need it for Lovoto here. Excuse me while I go and LOL and deal with actual problems.
Speaking of body shaming...
