Designer Wants to Boycott Melania Trump Over Their Beliefs
If 2016 has taught us anything, it's that it is now "intolerant" to refuse service even if it violates your most deeply held beliefs. Just look at Gaystapo Strikes Again: Christian Bakery Fined For Reasons You Won’t Believe… and It’s Happening: Gay Couple Suing New York Bed and Breakfast For Not Hosting Wedding…
Or, at least it's intolerant if you're a Christian. If you're a designer who doesn't like Melania Trump's husband, refusing service is the pinnacle of patriotism. Yay refusing service!
Designer Sophie Theallet isn’t a fan of President-elect Donald Trump and has announced she’s refusing to dress the next first lady, Melania Trump.“As one who celebrates and strives for diversity, individual freedom, and respect for all lifestyles. I will not participate in dressing or associating in any way with the next First Lady.” Theallet wrote this in an open letter she posted to Twitter on Thursday. “The rhetoric of racism, sexism, and xenophobia unleashed by her husband’s presidential campaign are incompatible with the shared values we live by.”
Theallet, 52, is a French-born designer who grew to prominence by dressing current first lady Michelle Obama on a number of occasions.
No word yet whether Melania actually asked Theallet for service or if this is just a preemptive refusal. If it's the latter, that makes it extra douchey patriotic.
Again, we see leftists merely kickstarting Donald Trump's 2020 re-election. At the end of the day, the clothes Melania Trump wears are irrelevant. And while this move by Theallet may wow them in San Francisco and Upper West Side (two places who always vote for the leftist), what about Middle America? The states that swung the election? Hypocrisy like this is why they rejected Democrats in the first place.
Real America thinks it's fine for the designer to refuse service. It would be fine for a catering company to only cater gay weddings. If your deeply held beliefs lead you to not want to do something, that's fine. The key is consistency.
A bakery or florist shouldn't be arrested or bankrupted for doing exactly the same thing as Sophie Theallet. Make sense?
